Important thing to remember, no one as seen an airbender in 100 years let alone fight one. Zuko and many other characters are excellent benders and fighters but have no experience fighting airbenders. Thats one way Aang wins a lot of fights, the other is solely on him being a master airbender.

I love how the show portrays the kyoshi warriors (and women in general) as warriors who happen to be women instead of women who happen to be warriors. If you start of with a character as the part of their identity that matters and then work on incorporating their gender, you get it realistic and empowering at the same time.

We see women in the army (unlike water or earth), and Azula was a war commander respected by men far older than her. And in my point about strong female characters: Katara, Suki, Yue, Toph, Ty Lee, Mai, and yes Azula are all well written characters with distinct personalities, worldviews, strengths and weaknesses, and issues that we see them work through and overcome. That is how you write a strong character

Would definitely watch more per week if you wanted to do that much. Great commentary. 1. Animation isn't bad now, but it gets better 2. there is a certain order to learn the elements. It's the same order as the avatar incarnation cycle 3. So the avatar is born into a culture (fire, water, earth, air), and once they're told they are the avatar, they travel through the nations mastering the elements in the correct order (Air, water, earth, fire) 3. Season 1 isn't bad, but it only gets better as the series goes on 4. Aang's tatoos are only given to airbending masters. So aang has already mastered one element, even though he's only 12. 5. Only some members of each culture are benders. The exception is the air nomads. All air nomads were benders. 6. A major theme you should watch for, is Aang's attitude towards killing

IMO the issue with people who get upset about first-time watchers missing details is that they probably forgot how they were when they first started watching Avatar, or any show for that matter. You're *going* to miss some things no matter what, but ultimately that puts even more value in re-watching a good show. You pick up more as you understand the context beforehand, and your brain has a lot more room to process the finer points now that it's not completely new content.

Yeah, Avatar episodes have a habit of being taken down even when the youtuber is following the rules. What I love about that is that every person that makes one of these kinds of videos inevitably positively promotes the show, but they take them down ruthlessly. My favorite is Hello Future Me who uses Avatar as an example for how to write well, and is videos just keep getting taken down. They're just missing out on free promotion

It might help to fade it a little more but not too much, mirror the image, and possibly fade the saturation some. Some people also slightly pitch the audio of the show in either direction high or low. And always make sure to keep the (not necessarily your reaction) but the video that is displayed for us to see under 10 minutes long. Many reaction videos also seem to be kept up if a very thorough review is done and sources are cited thoroughly both in the video and description. Copyright sucks. Even when people are following the rules, things get taken down.

20:10 - In the intro in the first episode, Katara said her grandmother would tell her stories about " a time of peace, when The Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads." She also says that only The Avatar can "stop the ruthless firebenders." So, you're given the sense that The Avatar's broad role in the world is as a peace-keeping entity. Also, given what you know about the avatar's life cycle, you know that they reincarnate. All of this so far has been showing you the effects of Aang's disappearance - in his flashback, the war hadn't started yet. By the time he wakes up out of the iceberg, the world has been at war for a century.

Glad to see someone saying it. One of the series strong points is that they dont leave it to chance whether someone picks up an important plot furthering detail. They'll work it in a few times. Any missable stuff tends to be forshadowing or some form of chekovs gun, where missing it isnt a problem.

Each type of being is based on a different martial art. They have relative strengths and weaknesses against each other type. Since the airbenders died out, no one has encountered their fighting style for generations. Zuko's a very good firebender, but he's never had to fight an airbender before. Also Aang is an extremely good airbender.

So it was repeatedly brought up, but only stuck the fourth time for some reason.
