Wow! Great reminder that we are called to train our children, NOT to be their best friends.

I’m in for 1st Samuel! We were on a walk in our neighborhood one evening. Our walk is about a 3 mile walk loop and we saw two “Jesus 2024” signs plus ours…so 3 signs! That’s about 1 sign per mile! We must remain steadfast in praying for our children.

All in to read Samuel. The parenting contrast between reasoning and praying was powerful. Now I’m praying for my grandchildren in addition to my adult children. “Persevere” God hears us 🙏

Amen! I’m in… Praying for my kids. 1 Samuel 2:35 And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind. And I will build him a sure house and he shall go in and out before my anointed forever. This verse reminds me of Jesus.

Oh you know I’m always in for reading the Bible with my one another’s!! First Samuel Let’s go!! 🙌🏼 Thank you for that encouragement Pastor Bobby! These chapters have been such helpful reminders that to ignore sin is not loving! Like the sermon on letting love be genuine…. We can’t say we love our children and let them go on in their sin which leads to death! I am stirred up to pray!

Amen we do need a righteous King leading America. Lord Jesus help us. Saints pray for people with Biblical perspective and values. Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

When Hannah came to God’s house, she received Eli’s blessings, and after each blessing, God blessed her with Samuel and five other children. However, Eli had no one to intercede, bless, or pray for him. That was the environment my family was used to. We ministered, blessed, prayed, taught-did everything for God’s body. Yet, what we received in return was defamation, insult, rejection, ungodly expectations, and much more. I understand that Eli and my family had God, and He is all we need. I don’t feel sorry for Eli as a nice man who received a bad outcome; I feel sorry for Eli as a man who had no brotherly support. I want to be the kind of person who supports people in positions like Eli. I want to be a godly person so I can pray for and bless my spiritual leaders. I want to be someone like Hannah had when she came to the House of the Lord. I want to bless and pray for you and your family, Pastor Bobby. I want and commit to live my life rightly in God’s sight so my prayers for our Compass’s pastors and deacons will be effective. May God enable me!

Amen, amen, amen! I'm in for reading 1 Samuel! I'm in for reading Revelation for our Endless Summer! Btw- I got saved at Compass HB last summer, in July of 2024, during our midweek services when we were studying Zechariah! Also, our daughter's name is Hannah, and it would be so awesome if she bears a male child, names him Samuel, and raises him FOR GOD! This reading and video came at the perfect time for my husband and I. Hannah is almost two and is our first child. She's just entering the phase of experiencing big emotions, wanting independence, etc. As new parents AND newly saved Christians, we have been having a challenging time navigating how to approach discipline. Correcting her behavior with love instead of anger is hard sometimes. It's not a punishment! It's a correction! I'm so glad you reminded us to pray about it and ask God to guide us in our parenting and putting scripture on our hearts was just what we needed to hear. Thank you, pastor Bobby. Thank you God!

Amen! I am in. This week has been a time of reflection in my own life when I see the life of Eli and his lack of obedience for the sake of maybe peace but it only leads to death. I praise The Lord that despite my failures God spoke to the heart of my daughter and He chose to reveal Himself to her and granted repentance and she is now raising her children in the discipline of the Lord. In regards to other family members and those who God has placed in my life, let that not be me, souls are at stake. Please pray that I search my own heart and that I be bold and speak in love and gentleness.

Amen! The Flowers have been IN the OT, and loving it! ❤ It’s ONLY because of the infallible Word of God that I have an amazing child-who is saved and standing for Christ on her campus! I thought it was interesting when Hannah said she was lending baby Samuel to the Lord’s work, but I’ve always thought the opposite=the Lord lent me kids to give glory to Him. (Proverbs 22:6, ESV) “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

I used to judge the Bible based on human moral standards, perhaps influenced by my culture. I remember feeling sorry for Eli for how well he raised Samuel, how he blessed Hannah, how he rebuked his sons, how he accepted God’s verdict towards his family, and how he cared for the Ark of the Covenant. However, I no longer judge God’s words that way. (2 Corinthians 5:16) Although the sins of Hophni and Phinehas were grave and God's judgment on them was inevitable, Eli's inaction was still inexcusable. There were many things Eli could have done: he could have exercised judgment on his children, removed them from office, punished them, or prayed, begging for God's help and forgiveness. He could have sought God's mercy as Moses and David did, demonstrated zeal for God's holiness like Phinehas son of Eleazar, or restored true worship like Josiah. Not diving too deeply into what the Scriptures imply about Eli’s fatness, he seemed to appear as a good and decent man who reverenced and was submissive to God’s authority; he had dishonored God. God was right when He said, "You honored your sons above me." If Eli had truly honored God, he would have done everything in his power and responsibility as a father and high priest to purge evil from Israel. Eli’s grand saying did him no good and brought God no glory. Yes, God would certainly do what seems good to Him, but didn’t Eli know he also needed to do what was right in God's eyes? Deut 21:18-21 Stone a rebellious son Number 18:1 Responsible of the priest Levi 22:2 Respect the sacred offerings Levi 10:1-3 God will prove Himself holy Levi 21:6 the priest must be holy to their God Levi 19:30 have reverence for God’s sanctuary Exodus 20:14 shall not commit adultery Levi 19:17 Deut 17:12 put to death anyone who acts presumptuously, not obeying the priest

God clearly takes the sin of Eli personally here in this passage. In verse 28 it describes the special position and practice the priests had. Yet Eli forfeited this position and the Lord’s blessing by condoning the sin of his sons and trying to reason with them instead of discipline them and dealing with them. Clearly Eli is putting his kids before God here. The tone shift from verse 28 to verse 29 really struck me … it’s like in verse 28 God is saying I have made you a priest and blessed you … then in verse 29, then why did you terribly sin against it me… God definitely “takes it personally” for a lack of a better term. First application point is sin is never just ok. Are we really hitting sin like we are trying to kill it? Or are we ok with sin in our own life or our one another’s life like Eli was ok with the sin in his kids life. The right thing to do was lovingly discipline them … “abhor what is evil” Romans 12. We should be crying over our sin not babying it. Second is oftentimes I can have a low view of my position as a Christian. Been trying to read the book of Ephesians everyday this month and just from that book we are told we have every blessing in the heavenly places, everything we need for spiritual growth, the Holy Spirit giving us assurance of salvation, immeasurable riches, and 24/7 VIP access to the throne of grace for goodness and mercy. Praying that we would not view prayer or our position as Christians as a chore but we would have joyful obedience … the best description of a Christian should be someone who has joy bursting out of their skin.

So Hannah prays & petitions God for a son and promises him to the Lord in a Nazirite vow and after young Samuel is born & properly weaned, delivers him to the "parent of the year" ELI! I'm surprised that Samuel's father, Elkanah would submit his son to be raised in such a wicked environment of a weak father and his depraved sons ! Is anything too hard for the Lord?!
