The name of their people are the Ghorfas, sandpeople is a racist term in Star Wars, pretty much the same as the real world. Tuskan Base was the name of one of the first mines on the planet, the Ghorfa slaughtered everyone stationed there and got the name Tuskan Raiders.

That sand monster looked like a next generation version of one of Ray Harryhausen’s creations in old movies. I think it was a tribute to the guy. IF you don’t know who I am talking about, check out the documentary on Tubi; Special Effects Titan.

This first episode was pretty good looking forward to the rest. Sand people are also called Tusken raiders. The main issue was the runtime was a bit short needed 10-15min longer. Great reaction Magy 😃 happy New year everyone🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳

You are not misremembering. They are known as sand people/Tusken Raiders kind of interchangably.. Though if I remember correctly, sand people is seen as a in-universe slur for them.

Neither name, obviously, is what they would call themselves, but as I recall, the sand people got the name "Tusken Raiders" because they literally raided Fort Tusken, tortured and killed everyone there, and made it something of a base for otherwise nomadic operations. In the novelization of Attack of the Clones, it says that the sand people have a culture of sadism: They tortured Shmi Skywalker to death because they wanted to learn more about her...the belief that she would see Anakin again is what gave her the fortitude to go on, and the amount of torture she withstood deeply impressed the chieftain. Once Anakin did arrive, Shmi felt she could stop fighting.

Oh cool! They have Parkour and Ninjas in A Galaxy Far, Far Away. The liquid Boba was in for his healing is called Bacta. It's the same liquid Luke was in after he was attacked by the Wampa in The Empire Strikes Back.

I felt that the way the Gamorreans responded to Boba's question about "if I spare your lives?" was about as clear as could ever be expected. When the youngling was sleeping, it wasn't a good opportunity for escape, as Boba and the Rodian were both still chained together, the Massiff would likely have woken, and we already know Boba can't count on the Rodian for anything. The Tusken Raider youngling, probably knew he was going to be in trouble if he got the two slaves killed and came back with nothing. Not only did Boba not kill the youngling during his escape attempt, but he also saved the youngling from the monster. I believe the youngling was proclaiming "look, look! I killed this monster and brought it's head as proof" and others all seemed to be admiring him. Meanwhile, the chieftain wordlessly hands a drink to Boba, as if to say "I understand who really killed that thing. You brought the little one back, most outsiders wouldn't." All in all, I would have liked the episode to be a bit less of "front loading with flashbacks" but a lot of potential viewers may not have an understanding of so much of Boba's history. Basically, after Jabba's death, his right hand man (Twi'lek) Bib Fortuna took over and things ran pretty much the same as before, "new boss, same rules, same process, nothing to get upset about". Boba killed Bib Fortuna and took over. He became an "Underworld Boss" (Crime Lord) absorbing much of what had been Jabba's, and Boba is making waves (kind of interesting, making waves on a desert planet, now that I think about it.) Of course, not sure who sent the attackers, and I doubt Jabba was paying tribute to this Mayor, though he might have occasionally done a bit of bribery. I like to think the Mayor "pushed" this a bit when Bib took over, and may have tried to push either the same or a slightly better (for him) deal with the "new, new boss" But I would say, sending 5 people, even highly trained ones, to attack a very established and well renowned bounty hunter (and killer) who just took out the underworld boss and annexed his territory, and who happens to have a "master assassin" that you've got to practically be swimming in cash to hire, as his right hand (unlike Jabba with his right hand Bib) and attack them in broad daylight... Probably not going to win any intelligence based prizes with that decision.

What I didn’t get was having a stormtrooper (and not Jabba’s guards) in the Sarlacc Pit, when none of them were at the battle with Luke. Maybe he slipped and fell in. lol

remember that the Sarlacc digests prey very slowly (I believe 1,000 years was mentioned although that is probably an exaggeration). I find it highly probable that Jabba has fed some of the local imperials to the Sarlacc on occasions were either a more definite lesson or discrete end than the Rancor was required.

Here's my take on EPISODE 1: "Stranger in a Strange Land" is the title of a classic Robert Heinlein science fiction novel about a Mars-raised man who has an outsider's perspective on future Earth society. Current day Fett needs bacta treatments and dreams of the past. I like the juxtaposition of his parallel rebirths and the contrast between his former low point and present high point. Prequel flashes to Kamino and Geonosis! In the belly of the beast! We see Boba's escape from the Sarlacc looking much like how the Expanded Universe stories have long described it! The Jawas strip him of his armor to sell it to Cobb Vanth later on! The Sandpeople's version of an ammonia ampule is worm guts! Yuck! Being a Tusken slave is no picnic! He spares the massiff and the youngling. Will it be seen as strength or weakness? The greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy outclassed by a female Tusken and a gaffi stick! For shame! What would Cad Bane say? The king holds court and is offered tribute by Aqualish and Trandoshan vassals, spares a pair of loyal Gamorreans and gets snubbed by the mayor of the capital, Mos Espa. Mos Espa was Anakin's birth city. A 'daimyo' is a Japanese term equivalent to a feudal lord. Fett and Fennec make the rounds collecting their cut. Max Rebo found a new gig at Garsa Fwip's swank club. Lol. The delectable JENNIFER BEALS guest stars as the club proprietress Garsa with a feather-light caress and a hefty payout. The Mayor of Mos Espa's second delegation is even less friendly than the unctuous Twi'lek and get the jump on our duo! Love the energy shields! Cash on the streets evaporates faster than water on Tatooine! Gamorreans to the rescue! Obliterate that fool but we need one alive! THOOM! Rooftop parkour! Ming-Na's now 58 years old and unstoppable! Tusken slaves dig for water gourds like truffle pigs. A gang of Nikto brigands are harassing moisture farmers. Boba's Rodian bud is a natural truffle pig AND squealer. Fett teaches the youngling a little respect and slakes his thirst. Oops! They unearth a six-legged monstrosity that could have been dreamed up by Edgar Rice Burroughs and looks very reminiscent of Ray Harryhausen's Ymir from "20 Million Miles to Earth"! Boba makes the kill but the youngling takes the credit and the head back to the village. The chief knows the score and gifts Fett the most precious commodity on Tatooine: water. RESPECT. Great first installment directed by Robert Rodriguez, written by Jon Favreau and scored by Ludwig Goransson! Only 7 episodes.

I thought showing a flashback to Kamino was great in the beginning because he came from an aquatic planet. Towards the end, and during the flashback after he survived the Sarlacc pit, it showed Boba struggling to survive looking/fighting for water on a desert planet. Loved the opposites.

Boba was always my favorite since I was really little and was beyond blown away when he showed up in The Mandalorian. I was even more stoked when they announced his show...and this show is so awesome already. I loved seeing him escape the Sarlacc Pit and the Clone Wars flashback stuff. Looking forward to this show. 🧠The Last Samurai taught me that there are 2 types of generals: 1) those that rule trhough fear and / or pay you to follow them = Captain Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) and 2) those that inspire you by leading through example = the samurai leader Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) 😎I'm guessing Boba's seen plenty of the 1st type and the flashback scenes explain why Boba now prefers the 2nd type.

Yes, it is a Wookie hide/pelt. They visit a place in Mos Espa, the cantina from the movies is in Mos Eisley (and the patron is played by Jennifer Beals from the movie Flashdance). I think the youngling is either the son or daughter of the Tusken chieftain and I think Boba Fett is not accepted but showed his value and will now be treated better but still be a prisoner/slave (I guess it will be like in some Gladiator movies, they will have him fight and work to get his freedom back over time). Love how much you remembered from the movies considering the time already has passed since watching.

Heeey ! It's finally here !!! We've been waiting for over a year, now, since that post credit scene in the Mandalorian season 2 finale ! Episode was ok. Not a lot happening, but it's the intro episode, so of course, there was going to be a lot of exposition happening. I'm expecting ep2 to deliver much more. Great that you've got pretty much all the callbacks that appeared in the episode. Something I really like that Jon Favreau is doing in the Mandalorian and here is to pay respect to the indigenous tribes like the Sand people (or Tusken riders). In just a few episodes, he's giving htem much more depth and culture than in all the movies combined. It really shows the difference of mentality, where Georges Lucas really has a cowboy vs indians mentality, siding of course with the cowboys, and taking the indians as just moving targets, while Jon Favreau is much more inclusive and wants to tell the story from both sides, which, to me is the superior kind of storytelling. I'm kinda thinking the bar's owner is on in the assassination attempt. After all, she put all his credits in Boba's helmet, making sure he couldn't put it on. And lo and behold, as soon as they got out of the building ... (edit post ep2 : Seems like I was right !) Other than that, good intro, and I loved your reactions to it. I feel like you could be dropped anywhere in the galaxy, you wouldn't need any protocol droid? Your face is so expressive you could be understood pretty much everywhere in the universe ^^

You did fine. 🙂 I have seen complaints elsewhere about the first episode. I agree with you and that is very well done. My only comment there is that it was too short. As for why the people send people were so cruel to Boba, that's the behavior of many primitive tribes. Anyone outside of the tribe is not seen as human, therefore fair game for abuse. I, too, wonder if the flashbacks will continue for the entire series. I have read, by the way, but there will only be seven episodes this season. P.S. The pretty club owner? Jennifer Beals.

I liked the flashbacks a lot. The present day story I'm not crazy about. Fett has always been a gun for hire. I don't feel like we got to really see his stories of that life, and he's suddenly bossing out on some Godfather shit? Feels like bad fan fic. I hope they do something great with it, though, and turn me around. Kind of a false start for me. But keep the flashbacks coming and I'll be good with it.

If the prisoner got tired and fell, or just lost their footing, then they would be dragged to wherever they were going.
