I wish this video was shot 6 years ago, so I don' have to gain all this knowledge by myself. Everything is well explained. My ankles are also so skinny, arches very high and my feet are 7.5 US so proper bootfit is very important. I fought unbearable boot pain my first four season of riding and and I was 60+ day type a rider. Now all my boots are dialed and although I don't have so much time to ride, every day in the mountain is pure joy. Your channel is awesome, pure info, no old guys myths and no up-to-the-chin snowboards. Keep the good work!

Thank you very much! I do have a take on board length that is quite opposing the industry opinion of only going by weight, and there is a bit of 'to the chin' in my philosophy. But I'll do a full episode on that, and you can tell me whether that makes any sense. :-) Looking forward to hear your opinion once it's been uploaded here. Could be within the next week. Cheers!!

The most amazing in depth boot fit video ever. This should be industry standard. A massive thank you. I think, especially here in the uk, shops won’t make enough profit to take this much (and imo the correct amount of) time for a boot fit. Many years ago I had 32 Lashed, laced. Custom insole and heat moulded. I rode 4 weeks a season and never had an issue. One year I threw them out, my thoughts were I was due a new pair. I must have tried 4 pairs of Lashed; Boa, Laces, speed laces. All excruciating to wear. Last year they were so bad (after having fitted in a shop) I was dangerous riding, I had no control. Luckily the shop had them back and refunded me. I have Northwave Decade SL from the year before, perfect stiffness and I can charge in them (I’m now 51 and my charging days are numbered) - BUT the way the tongue is in the liner there is a seam across my foot. I have high arches and high insteps. I thought about cutting a hole out from the tongue/foot where it joins, would you advise this? I don’t think it’s an area that is affected by the heat moulding process and the only way I think to relieve the pressure is to remove it.
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel10 ай бұрын
Yup! Cut it! Don't cause too much damage... but that is sometimes the only cure. Thanks for the comment and compliment! Thirty Two boots have reduced the amount of Intuition foam in their liners quite a bit... for what they call "a better out of the box fit"... Just to sell more boots with less effort... When I hear 'out of the box fit and comfort', I basically run! :-) A boot super perfect and comfortable in the shop will likely last about a month for me... Shop staff simply needs better product education and then fit people properly. We wouldn't need all those squishy one week boots, if there was more knowledge in the game. But snowboarding has always been a fashion show and a hype fest. That is the whole reason for this channel. I want to make a difference and share helpful knowledge - even if I don't get it right all the time... it's better to actually have a well thought out opinion than just rolling with marketing hype... So many people could have more fun with their gear, had they been told better what they actually bought in the first place... Thanks for watching my stuff!!

Lars, I have been thinking about boots and wonder why folks do not talk about boot quivers the way that some people have board quivers (besides the economic limitations). I am thinking about getting a dedicated carving board and it seems to make sense to have a stiffer, more responsive boot. However, for powder days a more forgiving boot also makes sense. Likely a 27. Measure your foot like I show in the 'right boot size' and 'functional waist width' videos. That's your Intuition size. Depending on liner model you go 0.5 up or down in size. But your boot won't fit more than a 27 LV or 26 MV, I think.

I have skinny calves and ankles. Recently I have been modifying the upper part of my boots with binding ratchets or ski boot buckles to get the very top of the boot to fit tighter. Previously I would have to over tighten the boot to get it to feel tight around my calf, but that would make the rest of my foot way too tight. I would love if boots came with a better way to tighten specific areas while being able to leave other areas looser. For now I think adding a buckle or ratchet at the very top seems to fix a lot of my issues. Shells can be modified to a degree as well.

Hey Lars! Thanks for the GREAT video! I have a question for you. I have top of the line Salomon boots, with really good liners. I have really skinny ankles and I think low volume feet, and even with Salomon boots, that are narrow, sometimes my heels rise in the boots. I brought them to a ski service, to do some boot fitting. They fit ski boots, mostly. I thought to fix them, they would add a sheet of fitting foam on the external of the liner, but they opted instead to add a 4mm wedge only under the heel, and to put a new insole on top of that. So a little bit different on the shim you added in your liners, that raise all the foot. The wedges raise only the heels, in my case. So, in this case, they removed some space in height in the boot, so the feet and ankles are placed higher in boots and they should stay locked better. Is it a good solution? Bacause now my riding position in the boots have pratically the toes sitting a bit lower than the heels. Do you see issues with this? Thanks!
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel11 ай бұрын
Great question! It is a solution to the issue, but as you said, it raises the heels. I would opt for external C-pads or J-bars instead. They sell them in ski shops. Not overly expensive. Salomon changed their last a while back. They were MY BOOT BRAND forever: narrow, aggressive heel pocket, wider in the toe box.... Then they reversed that suddenly.... Heel lift galore for me! Changed to K2 and Ride boots. Still need J bars, but much better liners than Salomon. This is a few years ago, so maybe Salomon changed again... no clue! Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your vidéos. I've just bought Ride Insano too. Perfect sized 280mm for a foot 278mm. No pressure points felt during shopping. But first ride day was a bit tough as the toe part faced numbness. It was not disabling for riding but very uncomfortable as I could not move any toes. I had the feeling that my feet were just piece of hard wood. Do you think it will be better after few days ? As I am French, I apologize if my english is not accurate... Thanks for your help. 😊

Get a heat mould with a toe cap. The boot is fairly low profile above the toes and can push down a bit there. Should go away with a heat mould and a bit more riding.

I noticed you took the laces off of your intuition liners. Did you rig up another way to tighten them? I've been using the intuition fx race liner for about a year or so, and they look similar. The plastic cinch loosens easily, and my burton supreme boot has a second plastic cinch for the inner ankle harness. All these plastic parts and extra strings are aggravating. A plastic piece inside the boot seems so counter intuitive, but I didn't think about it because I blindly trusted manufacturer's design. I wanted an after market wrap style, but it is too high of volume for my boot. I try to position the plastic thingies higher up but they loosen easily. Just venting. Can you recommend anything? Several times I've been tempted to wrap velcro or something. I'm also disappointed in choices for women's boots. Burton's top of line stiffest women's boot is mediocre but I use it because it has a small profile. I will use small men's bindings but am afraid to buy men's boots. The highbacks on my men's bindings are stiffer, but they are actually a bit flatter than my women's, so they don't curve around the back of the boot as nicely. Even "stiff" women's bundings seem medium to me, so it's always a trade off. I've added things to the men's bindings to make a better connection around back of boot. Been carving decades. Hate the gender specific market in snowboarding. Have started "arts and crafts" modifications from advice of a friend. Wish the market for carving was based on rider size and rider's goals, not gender. Rant over 😂Precision carving makes it easy to feel the flaws in equipment. The solutions are in rider's hands, not always the company

Agreed on the gear part!!! My liner laces are off, because my boot has that same heel hold harness in it, which does a much better job. That's all I do... Maybe take the liner lace out and add a velcro powerstrap around the top of the whole boot?! K2 actually make men's boots in pretty darn small sizes!! If you can get an Orton or Thraxis, that could be a good choice. Not sure about Ride in regards to small sizes. I totally hear ya! You should follow @saraprevite on Insta and get in touch with her. Wrong video, my friend! 🙂 But happy to answer: A friend of mine is 6'3" and 190lbs and rides his Cheater 170W as his allmountain everyday board. He carves like a madman, and the board is happy to do so. That is all I can say. Carving is a lot about rider ability, too. The thick centre of the Cheater handles a heavier rider well. @Justaride-Snowboard-ChannelАй бұрын
They don't exist anymore. The were called 'Superfeet Red'. A winter model with reflective foil under the toes for a bit more warmth. They're different now and called 'Winter Thin' or 'Winter Comfort'. Quite honestly, I like the old ones better.... Bummer!

@@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel I currently use Spenco Total Support Max. They’re excellent for gait/pronation control. They have a nice contoured heel cup as well. My physical therapist recommended Superfeet because they have an even more contoured heel cup. I’m going to get the Run Support High Arch and All Purpose Support High Arch. I’m focusing on lower cushion thickness models. That’s what the bottom of the liner should provide, in theory, along with impact elements of the sole of the boot. I went from Burton Ions as my last pair. Phenomenal boot. Got a good deal on Vans Verse. Got a second pair for split boarding. I will say that the footbeds of these Vans are quite supportive, if not a little too thick. On the bottom of footbeds, there’s a semi-rigid plastic that wraps all the way around ankle pad to direct forces inward, and that plastic goes all the way forward, up under the arch. After a heat moulding, I will say that they’re the most secure and responsive boots I’ve ever had. I also seem to have an ideal “Vans foot shape”.

Why wouldn’t you heat mould your boots with your normal snowboarding socks on?
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel11 ай бұрын
Taking up less space by wearing a super thin sock will leave the liner less compressed. Once in the boot with normal socks, it's a nice, snug fit, because the sock is thicker. We're not talking anything majorly noticeable... It's just that little extra, and you can do it this way or not. Depends on the desired fit, i guess.

If my left big toe keeps jamming into the front of the boot during hard carves, is that a fitting issue or too soft of a boot flex issue? I wear a 32 tm2 with a double boa. Broken in for 1 season. And the top boa comes loose after every other hard charge or carve. (I ride +18 -9 regular)

@@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel thanks for the guidance! I consulted my local shop afterwards and am guessing together that there might be too much room above my toes - leading them to shift up during toe side carves and jam down into the top-front of the boot. @Justaride-Snowboard-Channel10 ай бұрын
@@dont4get2wipe they changed the line this year!! You can now choose between tongue vs. wrap liner; then between dual vs. high density, then pick the right volume for your shell fit. If you can measure your foot in cm and then tell me how many fingers you can fit in behind the heel when standing in the boot's shell touching the front with your toes without curling them, I can tell you which volume you need (low 9mm, medium 12mm, high 15mm). You order the liner in your foot's cm length in that needed volume. Dual density is quite a bit nicer against the skin and gives it more of a snowboard boot feel, so that's almost a no brainer.
