The Bambus Verlag edition, circa 2004, had an additional booklet with the Robert Louis Stevenson novel in German and in English. It's a little bonus material that really helps getting to understand the meaning of the cards illustration, and I wish more publishers would do something like this.

I saw that version recently and really liked that! I've sadly not read the novel yet and lament the fact every time I sit to play this game. Thanks for the comment I DG and good to know the story helps sort those images, cheers!

The Bottle Imp is a wonderful card game, and the short story by Robert Louis Stevenson on which the game is based is great too.

​@@ClaudeAndTaylor In the story, the person who winds up with it is an old sea dog, and he says he's spent such a sinful life that he knows he's going to Hell anyway. Plus, he knows all his shipmates will be there, and he's looking forward to seeing them again.

Card games are playing card games now!? I brushed this game off before because I must've missed the actual way you gain points, thought it was just the bottle imper was the loser. I'm adding to my list now
