I love when she said "life happens to us, no parent is perfect- its a part of your story, NOT who you are" - It's so true. Didnt have the best childhood and I only felt love from one parent, but I know it had nothing to do with me or my journey. I dont like when ppl blame parents or childhoods, or hold onto that for decades, as a reason to treat others a certain way. Move on & just enjoy YOUR life!!

I call it "climbing into the trenches." When you're deep in grief, experiencing a life changing loss, sometimes you don't want someone to pull you out of the trench, sometimes you just need that person to climb down into the gutter and sit with you. You can't deny anything that's going to make it better, so don't try. Just be there.

Whew when you told the story about your daddy, I immediately got teary eyed, got up and hugged my daddy. As a caregiver, I have learned to cherish my dad more and do everything I possibly can for him while I can. Thanks for sharing. God bless you! 😢😢😢💖🙏

What you are describing about taking opportunities to help others go through what you have already experienced, is what I refer to and teach as the Funnel Theory. I teach that followers of Christ should be like funnels, pouring out on others only what we freely received from the Father. Blessings

I don't think that therapy is to blame someone, it is to help you deal with the issues from your past. I had a pretty bad childhood and it still haunts me today, I don't blame my parents but I just need assist with coping with it.

I am a trauma counselor and I get what you mean about not blaming parents. Helpful to find a Christian trauma and/or eating disorder therapist who can use those techniques to help you get things that are stuck. It's not about blaming the parent, but identifying things that may have gotten stuck in your brain. I help my clients understand their parents could have done the best they could and it's but about blame but more about identifying the triggers or places that got stuck as trauma in their brain. Think of it this way. If a parent got a chronic illness, they may cause the child a lot of trauma. Not the parents fault at all but still important to focus on how those experiences with the parent may have affected the child and their view of life and view of self.

May I also suggest the book titled The Body Revelation by Alisa Keeton? It is a Christ centered book that walks you through how to process your pain and overcome! Jesus said; "Take heart, I have overcome the world!" And this book is such a great guide on how to "take heart" and walk in the victory of Jesus!
