what a cast !!!! can you imagine to have all these actors in one movie , MEL GIBSON, DANIEL DAY LEWIS, ANTHONY HOPKINS , LIAM NEESON all together !! they are icons now, at the time they weren't of course !! they have never been gathered together again , I'd like to see a reunion to celebrate the 40 Anniverssairy of this great film !! Bligh was a master navigator to do this. He eventually made the journey to Tahiti successfully and the breadfruit trees he transported are still there in the Caribbean.

Still can't get over the fact that Friar stood by Bligh's side although he had much greater reason to hate (least of all disrespect) his captain than any other man on board and didn't bat an eye when he followed him into what definitely could have been his death. The embodiment of a loyal honorable officer.

Fryer didn't like Bligh, but he was a true professional that knew his duty. And if you read the Bounty log you will find that the two men argued a lot and Fryer spent a part of the trip home in a brig on Blighs orders. He had more to gain in returning to England and transfer to another ship than joining a mutiny and everyone knew it.

After he returned to England, Fryer gave fair evidence at Bligh's court-martial. And he assisted Fletcher's brother, Edward Christian in publishing a counterweight to Bligh's version.

I love how civilised people used to utilize language. There is so much restrained emotion in the "you haven't seen the last of me." And the "We shall see, Sir." It's powerful, concise and polite. I wish we still ordered our lives in such a way that made speaking like this possible.

I always presumed Blight was both angry that he hadn't brought something more useful but it turned out to be the most useful tool on the boat.

For all his faults Fletcher Christian remained a gentleman - he stated clearly there was to be “no murder” and harshly rebuked any men who threatened Bligh before he was cast away. You are right though, a few decades later a mutiny on the British warship HMS Hermione the Captain was stabbed and thrown in the sea!

Roger Donaldson did a nice job directing this except he was stuck with Gibson as Christian. Hopkins was much better. This is the most accurate version.

Gibson was an excellent Fletcher. Perfectly portrayed an agonised man who made a life changing decision in a fit of anger and anguish as opposed to the dashing hero he is sometimes romantically portrayed as.
