The story of Bligh's journey, with the loyal crew, across some 2,000 miles of ocean in an open boat to a British port, is one that deserves to be made into a movie itself.

Still can't get over the fact that Friar stood by Bligh's side although he had much greater reason to hate (least of all disrespect) his captain than any other man on board and didn't bat an eye when he followed him into what definitely could have been his death. The embodiment of a loyal honorable officer.

Fryer didn't like Bligh, but he was a true professional that knew his duty. And if you read the Bounty log you will find that the two men argued a lot and Fryer spent a part of the trip home in a brig on Blighs orders. He had more to gain in returning to England and transfer to another ship than joining a mutiny and everyone knew it.

@@helgi1921 Very true. Why throw your career and reputation away when you can instead discredit someone else in a professional way. After he returned to England, Fryer gave fair evidence at Bligh's court-martial. And he assisted Fletcher's brother, Edward Christian in publishing a counterweight to Bligh's version.

For all his faults Fletcher Christian remained a gentleman - he stated clearly there was to be “no murder” and harshly rebuked any men who threatened Bligh before he was cast away.
