Bows were, imo, always "good". But now they are actually competitive with the changes. I love it, makes me and the rest of the Bow Hunters very happy.

It's effective but with the way the flaming arrows work by default I couldn't recommend it. Flaming is just more effective and you don't need the explosive effect.

Great video, you made me fish out a bow i had from a long time ago. Bloodied 50% crit damage 15 crit charge. I get 207 damage 162 fire and 1035/5s dot on fire arrow. I am literally one shottimg 2 star level 100 super mutants at west tec. This feels like a bug but its so much fun.

Hopefully it won't get re-balanced next patch. I personally think it is a good for the game to have multiple weapon options that are all viable, adds variety. There will likely always be a meta weapon/build, but I think the other options should always remain viable choices.

8:06 flaming arrows exploding like that isn't a glitch. It's the best way to tag trash mobs in events. I've been using a similar low health build with a vamps burning compound bow for a year or so, this update just beefed up the DoT. Even the base exploding arrows arent that good compared to prime, plasma and flaming. It doesn't need the explosive legendary effect. Try it if you like but you'll need the right damage reduction perks so it's not always worth it. Your best bet for crafting is tring to speed up the draw time. That's the only downside the bow has.

In what way? The DoT takes a bit of time to kill enemies but it's a one shot kill with most enemies. I'm having lots of fun shooting around corners and letting the DoT kill all the enemies in expeditions.

@@gimmickymoos I think the overall damage is pretty much the same as it was before, although I don't track the numbers specifically. The normal bow wasn't much better than the Burning Love, which didn't seem to get touched by the update. I've found that the most effective way to use the bow with either flaming or poison arrows is to rely on the area effect to put DoT on multiple enemies. You need the explosive legendary for poison and you can kill yourself. IMHO the flaming arrows are the best. You just shoot at a bunch of enemies and it'll DoT them to death. Even shooting at the ground does the job. But I am using a bloody bow so with a lesser damage boosting legendary it might not be as good at one shotting enemies. But it'll still be amazing at tagging.

Unfortunately the explosive mod doesn't seem to make a difference. It might make the area of effect a bit bigger, but I wouldn't make it explosive.

There's no reload on the bow so I haven't tried the faster reload, maybe I should, but I've tried the faster fire and it makes no difference to how fast you shoot.

Do you have Asbestos lining mod on your armor torso? Or Sizzling style legendary perk? That would explaing why flaming arrows aren't setting you on fire. Because I get set on fire even in power armor with molotovs and cremators im using so this is weird that it is not setting you on fire.

Is it not obvious the damage for exposive bow is bigger because it's Bloodied and you got lower health when you test it. Compare some basic crafted bow and some non-Bloodied drop and you see it shows identical damage for all weapons that have explosive damage mod restricted (like lasers, pepper shakers, flamers) but you can buff Gauss weapons

The point of the tests was to see how the configuration changes affected performance. I wasn't testing bloody vs full-health, but if it helps I get the same one shot kills without any bow damage boosting perks. The bow is powerful whether you're full or low health.

Do you mean the two shot legendary effect? I haven't tested it but if you check in the modification at the weapons workbench it'll list it if it's possible. But IMHO it wouldn't be worth it because the DoT effects don't stack so two shot wouldn't help.

If something's not working as intended it's been known to get fixed, like the pulse flamer got fixed after it was discovered and the two shot cryo alien blasters were nerfed by fixing the two shot explosive effect.

It'd be cool if bows left poison clouds and firey surfaces that put dots on enemies that walked into it. and yes fire did AoE before, the damage was really low though

A lingering poison cloud would be nice for area denial. The hellstorm launcher works in a similar manner so it should be possible.
