I did exactly as you did the border-box function was applied and I could see the difference using the developer tool. but for some reason there was a space between each column and I could not remove it unless I use 32% as the width. I even tried *{ margin :0 ,} and nothing changed

Something to note, if you put each of your divs on separate lines and use inline-block and use the 33.3333% your third div may go to the next line. I learned from SO that is because the div tags had a space between them because they were on different lines. If you make the ending div tag be right next to the starting div tag, i.e., being on the same line, that gap goes away. If there is another way to remove that, I'd like to know, but that was what I found and thought I'd share that back.
