The Boy Who Cried Wolf
In a small village, there lived a mischievous shepherd boy. Every day, he took his sheep up to the hillside to graze. The view was beautiful, but doing the same thing every day? The boy thought it was so boring!
One day, he came up with what he thought was a super fun idea! He ran down the hill, pretending to be really upset, and yelled, “Wolf! Wolf! There’s a wolf attacking my sheep! Help!”
The villagers were startled. “A wolf? Where? Let’s help him!” They grabbed sticks, shovels, and even big cooking lids and rushed up the hill as fast as they could.
But when they got there, there was no wolf. Not even a shadow of one! All they saw was the boy laughing so hard he could barely stand, while the sheep calmly chewed on grass.
The villagers were furious! “You little troublemaker! Don’t you dare lie to us again!” they scolded and angrily stomped back to the village.
The boy thought it was so funny! A few days later, he did it again. “Wolf! Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!”
This time, the villagers were suspicious. “Is he telling the truth, or is it another prank?” they wondered. But they still decided to check, just in case.
And once again-no wolf! The boy was rolling on the ground, laughing so hard he couldn’t stop. The villagers were even angrier. “That’s it! We’re not falling for this nonsense again!”
A few days later, something terrible happened. A big gray wolf crept onto the hillside, its eyes shining like it was saying, “Mmm, fresh sheep for dinner!”
The boy saw the wolf and froze. His legs were shaking, and his voice was trembling as he screamed, “Wolf! Wolf! There’s really a wolf this time! Please help me!”
But this time, the villagers didn’t move a muscle. “Ha! He’s just messing with us again. We’re not going to fall for it!” They shook their heads and went back to their work.
The boy waited and waited, but no one came. The wolf happily grabbed all the sheep and disappeared into the forest. The boy sat on the hill and cried and cried.
The lesson here is simple: if you lie too much, people won’t believe you, even when you’re telling the truth. So, kiddos, always be honest! 😊
