At the time this film was made, war orphans and other living casualties of WWII were being pressured to "forget" and pretend nothing bad had happened. The green hair a symbol of their pain and what the 1940s would think was their shame. But it was really what their experience could bring to the world.

There's a story that in the late 60s, Dean Stockwell was producing a movie that would've had Neil Young providing the soundtrack. The movie never materialized, and the soundtrack became "After the Gold-rush"

At 18:53, the movie, Jezebel, is another example of that problem. It's this black and white movie where the McGuffin , or perhaps the most important plot point ;>), is a scandalous bright red dress.

Similar story to Fran here - growing up in Germany, evening movies started at 8:15 pm and (with the ads) ran until around 10:30 pm. I had a bedtime of 10 pm, so I watched the first two acts of so many movies I never got to finish.
@Mr.Goodkat2 жыл бұрын
Similar - growing up in the UK movies would come on in the evening but I had a 9pm bedtime and never got to finish them. I just give up watching them altogether because not seeing anything at all is often preferable to not getting to see how it ends. I hated it SO much.

I don't even like movies. I haven't watched anything other than music biopics since the NWA movie, and only Gilliam movies for a couple years before that. But I watch this show every single episode since the beginning, and also have one of those mythical "rolling monthly donorships" they always talk about. You guys feature mostly movies I would never watch even if I did like movies. I fully trust your take on every movie, though, and have several past episodes written down on my lengthy "Movies people I trust have advised me to watch" list. It's up to about 800 movies right now but once I achieve immortality I promise I'll get to all of them.

Hey Matt and Craig! I have another Seen It, this time with a comment for Craig: ‘I Love You To Death’ from 1990, directed by Lawrence Kasdan and co-starred Kevin Kline, Tracey Ullman, Joan Plowright, Keanu Reeves and the late greats William Hurt and River Phoenix. I re-watched this movie recently and I understand how Craig feels in not wanting to re-watch River’s films after he passed. It’s hard to rewatch any film after someone passed, but we have their body of work to remember how great of a talent they were when they were here. P.S. - I forgot Jon Kasdan played Kevin and Tracey’s son in the film. Who knew he would grow up to write Solo: A Star Wars Story, among other things? Nepotism is a mofo, ain’t it?

This was another cool movie I’ve never heard of. Got one for your Seen It: 1970’s “Wanda” written and directed by Barbara Loden. It’s a great seldom-known movie set in Northeast Pennsylvania (where I was raised). Wanda is a listless woman with no direction who gets entangled with a small-time crook. The movie was decades ahead of it’s time and it has a unique feel to it with a downbeat ending which probably rings very true to the character. Loden was married to Elia Kazan for a while and he probably took credit for this small masterpiece. It’s worth seeking out. It used to be on KZbin. Haunting.

I saw this movie on TV in b&w sometime between 1972-76 (with subtitles). It was like radio or reading a book or watching theater, lack of color necessitated using my imagination more, but occasionally slightly annoying nonetheless. Film was strangely addictively slightly-disappointing but as close to engaging, well produced and acted as circumstantially possible, and uniquely interesting considering it's middle-school 2nd choice project.

Since this came from the age of Hollywood where kid actors were primarily expected to be cute and to "shut up and do what they're told", I'm kind of amazed that Dean Stockwell wasn't at least *nominated* for an Oscar for this. The leftist leaning story perhaps blew his chances? 🤷🏻♂️
