Haunting , beautiful, deep. As oposed to the utter shite that surrounds us at every tuen these days, even in Cathair Saidhbhín. Sang this at my mam's funeral up here in dirty dublin.and also at her bother's funeral down in the sacred acre., Cill Mhearnóg cemetry. Ciarraí Abú!

This song only has the same name as a pub in dingle, but the wren tradition is still huge in dingle thats where the mix up usually comes from, the song is about cahirciveen
@TheBlackcat23915 жыл бұрын
no its about the top street of Cahersiveen! The song is based on a poem by Sigerson Clifford, who was born in Cahersiveen, and it tells the story of the boys of Barr Na Sraide Top Street who hunted for the wren. The poem recalls the life of his boyhood friends starting from when they were young children through to the Black and Tan period, and up to the civil war.

@TheRenardpoint - Don’t procrastinate if you don’t know the answer, just say so. It was a serious question. I’ll try again. What is the name of the singer of this song who is a friend of yours?

Who is/was the singer? He seems to be reluctant to reveal his identity
@ccahill23222 жыл бұрын
Martin Omahoney, Why should you assume that he is "reluctant to reveal his indentity." This man worked with the Irish on London building sites. From that he wrote "From Clare to Here." A lovely but sad song about the heartbreak of forced immigration from Ireland. By your rather ignorant remark it is clear you are among those who have neither knowledge or feeling of such a time. You are at about the time when you may learn it all anew. His name is Ralph McTell. A great writer of songs. A good human being. And an Englisman
