@deryeksandhu83834 жыл бұрын
I think it's scary how topical this show is. All of Jeremy's complaints about the cracks in the world building...well we're literally seeing it out in the real world. Video footage gets ignored, big corporate exposures are explained away like Vought putting Madeline Swan under the bus. Others have mentioned Ezra Miller, but there is an Indian Actor who literally killed homeless people by drunk driving over their sleeping bodies, and he is the most popular actor in his country. This shit happens in real life, it's not inconsistent worldbuilding. It is frighteningly real. I love the channel, but I agree with the others. I think you should wait to watch it all at once. Season 1 was better paced, but I'm sure if you watched it on a weekly basis, it wouldn't feel as crisp. This season seems to be obviously building up to Homelander snapping, and I actually think the overall slower pace will pay off once the shit hits the fan. I like that they moved from Vought being an iconic company with a shady underbelly to having its shadiness outed and still being the biggest, most influential organization on the planet. It shows a genuine parallel to our actual world. I also like that the season is taking its time to show the characters deal with more personal stuff. They aren't taking down Vought with a plan in mind. They exposed Vought, and nothing happened. They are in despair, and that translates to the slow pace as well. I genuinely think once this season is over, we'll be able to appreciate these little moments more in hindsight. I think you said it yourself. Your opinion is affected by you coming off Cobra Kai which you called a good binge. I think you're just missing the binge for the Boys as well.

I actually agree with that, if this season would've been released all at once then we wouldn't have any issues, it's the weekly gaps that leave us with the empty feeling inside like "that's it? now I have to wait another fkn week to see what happens next." but it doesn't mean this season isn't bad. For example, you teased Giancarlo Esposito as the main baddie but he's barely had screentime this season. I know we still have like 3 more episodes to go and all but if he doesn't get more screentime then this is officially the worst season of the The Boys ever.

The ultimate goal of The Boys is to take out Homelander, Vaught, and all of the other dangerous superheroes that can basically go ballistic at any given moment and take over the world. I actually thought episode 5 was one of the stronger ones this season, even if it had less 'in your face' action... Lots of little things being set-up, plots within plots. Black Noir revealed to be working for Stan Egar who's been seeing everything the seven have been doing for months or years with that camera. Stormfront, a known racist, communicating and working with a black man with power while publically criticizing Vought... Maeve getting allies for what's almost certainly an anti-Homelander project. I think Jeremy is kind of missing the point. Homelander never cared about people, always saw himself above them, however he loves public perception. Eric Kripke even said that Stormfront was meant to have social media skills now instead of just being a white supremacist male in the comics. I think the ending sex scene shows that they are making Stormfront just as strong as Homelander and those two are going to try to wipe out humanity, or at least non-white people. That's why she wants to use Starlight as well. Meanwhile, Maive is trying to take down Homelander with the help of The Deep, A-Train is completely pissed at Vought and may join them as well who knows. I just have a feeling it will be Maive, Starlight, A-Train, The Deep, The Boys (hopefully including Kimiko) trying to take down Homelander and Stormfront by the end of the season. That's why I love this season! Edit: I do agree with the superterrorist thing though but Homelander only did that to show why Vought should get into the military and he EASILY kills one of them in this episode. Edit 2: They won't kill Becca because her son already hates Homelander and has the ability to be the next Homelander if they don't you know, kill his mother and make him want to kill everyone at Vought.

Show runner Eric Kripke mentioned that this season isn’t supposed to be “bigger and better” it’s meant to reveal the characters feelings and vulnerabilities. So far we have seen a lot of scandalous behaviour from Frenchie getting high and taking a shot a Kimiko in a selfish way as addicts do. Homelander coping with the death of Stillwell in the most grotesque fashion. Butcher’s hard shell being cracked by heartbreak and losing hope in ever succeeding in getting Becca back. A-train accepting his farewell from the seven. Deep attempting to redeem himself from his douche mentality and maybe evolve to be better. M.M seems to suffer from lack of control and facilitates by neurotic tendencies in the form of OCD. A racism narrative brought on by Liberty/stormfront which is probably a rushed story line penned in, in the wake of current events. It may not be breaking bad story arc quality but it is definitely doing what it is supposed to be doing. Giving us insight on the mental acuity in our companions in trauma and giving the slow cook before the budget explodes in the last quarter of the season. It’s smart by production standards to reserve studio resources and bring shit to a controlled boil. I have faith they will continue to break ground and cover us in much more blood in the future.

It's just that when a roller coaster ride is halted at the peaks and valleys the thrill of it as a whole ride experience is less. It's the kind of show that is built as a whole 8+ hour movie. We are in the story building/linking stage so of course it's going to suffer when we have to wait for why = any of it means anything. I wondered after watching this review if Jeremy would have had the same feelings about S1 if it was released an episode a week.

I disagree that this season is less compelling. At the end of season 1, it appears that the boys have uncovered this massive conspiracy and Becca is alive, thus the end goal becomes leaking the truth and rescuing Becca. They achieve these goals (kind of), but what has it actually changed for them? Especially for Annie who now has a target on her back.

Season 2 is enjoyable but my main gripe is that it lacks any sort of direction. For a serialized show, I feel like the story needs to lead somewhere or it gets a little boring when there is no action.
@discosprinkles92464 жыл бұрын
As to your point about how Vought has been exposed but it seems like most people still love them, you have the real world example of Disney. Everyone sees them selling out to the Chinese government who is committing atrocious crimes against the Taiwanese and other races in China, but everyone still can't wait to throw their money at seeing the next season of the Mandalorian, or see the next MCEU movie. Same thing is happening in politics. We see shady things on both sides of the aisle, but here we are stuck with the candidates we have. So far I'm enjoying this season a lot more than season 1. This one is sort of bonkers, so I like that. Last season felt ironically preachy.

Amazing how you choose to ignore the cluster fuck of DC , where a guy like Ezra Miller can smack a woman and it goes viral, but yet FanDUMBS still are hyped about the new Flash movie despite the abusive nature of it's prime star. i love this season! i think that the characters have continued to evolve in ways that make sense. they just keep on maintaining a sense of realism (outside of the superpowers of course). there are so many interesting threads (homelander going insane, the boys looking to take down vought, stormfront trying to create a fascist state, frenchie and female's relationship, etc). I disagree with the assessment that this season is worse than the last one. It feels like a logical progression in every way from the last. it's equal in my view.

I don’t think this season is quite as good as 1 so far, but I won’t throw out a final opinion until it over. I do think it’s really good. I feel the exact opposite with this season. We never really get to learn much of anything with these characters and we get really unnecessary scenes like Homelander fucking Stormfront and really corny scenes like Deep and his talking gills, all of which go against what the first season establishes about them. Season 2 especially has way too much of people talking about things that don’t really go anywhere.
@Usthereout4 жыл бұрын
IT-Saac Studios I disagree except for the part with the Deep. I think the Deep needs to die off and they replace him because his character is meaningless. And the fucking scene was actually quite important to the plot. It shows unity between Homelander and Stormfront, and she’s gaining his trust by making him fall for her. It’s leading up to them being allies and her carrying out her plans with Homelander, which is quite important
@JordanMaitlen4 жыл бұрын
Kez 100% agree with you here
@IT-SaacStudios4 жыл бұрын
Kez It rushes from the idea that Homelander hated her and how Homelander said to himself he doesn’t need anyone anymore in the ending of episode 4 where he kills his shapeshifter. And especially in episode 5 what do even see about Homelander that progresses to like Stormfront? He only gets like 3 short scenes in the episode where he cries about his audience not liking him when it was implied he was supposed to get over it in 4. Homelander and a lot of characters especially don’t make any sense in this season. Even from the beginning of this season I can’t say I liked or gained anything at all. Homelander doesn’t even get development with his son. The little screen time he has it’s focused too heavily on him obsessing over Stillwell and her milk without putting any other story behind his addiction for a mother in which it now seems like a fetish at this point.
@malachi81544 жыл бұрын
I thought this episode was on FIRE. "Let's have Maeve gay instead of Bi", "Oh, they're starving but they have cell phones!", "They started letting all kind of people in", Homelander's stand-in, reference to AOC's dancing all had me laughing hysterically. I don’t know what JJ is on, but this season has WAY more intrigue than S1. Last season the main plot was will The Boys bring down Homelander and The Seven? That was pretty much it, while this season has: Will Hewey and Annie get back together? Will Homelander corrupt his son? What’s Stormfront’s endgame? What’s the reason for Mr Edgar adding her to the Seven? Why is Becca choosing to stay in isolation with her child instead of leaving with Butcher? How will Butcher convince her to finally leave? Why was her and the child in isolation at all? Will A-train truly leave the Seven? How is Maeve going to use Deep to bring down HL? Will The Female get revenge for her brother’s death? What the hell is up with Black Noir? Lol Last season was great, but I’m WAY more locked into this season’s story. I think some ppl are saying it’s not as good because they could binge-watch last season in a day, but have to wait a whole week for a new ep, and they are taking it out on the show.
