I mean to be fair, Hughie and Butcher do have a point. They’ve both tried to do things the right way, especially Hughie. Even Butcher of all people was on the straight and narrow for an entire year only to find out that the whole game was rigged in the form of Victoria Neuman. Whether it’s Neuman or Homelander pulling his bullshit, they don’t really have a choice but to use Temp-V and team up with Soldier Boy.

But they're compromising themselves in the meantime, which is such a great conflict. Butcher being cruel to Ryan, despite the fact that Ryan could become another Homelander if he's not given the right affection and attention; Hughie viscerally murdering people and enjoying it; Both of them working with a sadistic child molester and war criminal who has power on the level of Homelander and who is barely controllable. Like it's brilliant storytelling, but them going off without the consciences of M.M., Frenchie and Kimiko means even if they take out Homelander, it's all going to end in tears :(

@@blueskybelyrIn this particular case, where the enemy is near invincible, you have to become a monster in order to deal with an even worse monster. Butcher was cruel to Ryan because he’s afraid that Ryan will turn out worse if he’s around. Hughie’s relationship with Starlight strikes a similar tone in that Hughie doesn’t want Starlight involved in case something catastrophic happens. I get the feeling that neither Butcher nor Hughie plan on making it out of this situation alive and they don’t want their loved ones involved because of that. Killing Homelander is the goal while surviving has always just been a luxury. Nothing short of extreme measures will suffice when dealing with extreme situations. It’s sad.

Well Soldier boy didn’t mean to kill the 19 ppl. If you watch it again, you see he hears a music on the radio in the car. And that song played on the radio when he was tortured (you see it in the flashback) so he lost control out of fear and distress.

My favourite scene from the episode hasn’t got much love from reactors but I love the bit where Homelander goes to the board meeting and as soon as he’s asked a legitimate question about running the company, he freezes up and he realises just how out of his depth he is, because for all his powers, he was defeated by a simple question to which he was too ignorant to know the answer.

Another sign that no matter what anybody does, Homelander's is going to snap completely at some point. The environment and people he's around at Vought are focused on placating him, not running a business. Whatever apocalypse dude is going to bring about is inevitable for three reasons. 1( He has no idea how run a business, 2( His ego, and by extension himself, is basically immune to any sort of criticism, 3( Everybody HATES the guy. When your hated more than feared people are going to eventually start to conspire to bring you down.

The 19 Deaths IMO were accidental due to Soldier Boy's PTSD. He now seems to have control over his radiation ray (for lack of a better word). Soldier Boy is also an actual patriot and fighter, whereas Homelander is a sociopath with no patriotism or fighting skills.

My theory is that it wasn't the Russians who sold Soldier boy out, but rather Stan Edgar. The Russians were the fall guys and their experiments paved the way in creating/making Homelander. One of the things they went out of their way to show was the parallels between Soldier Boy and Homelander. Both were subjected to horrific treatment by scientists that turned them insane, both were idolised by the masses and both were psychotic leaders of their teams who enjoyed their ability to abuse their power, which ended up with their teammates despising them. So rather than asking “What would a fight between Homelander and Soldier Boy look like,” the question we should be asking is “What happens if they say ‘You and I aren’t so different after all’ and team up?”

Hughie and Annie are on two opposite sides of the same coin: stopping/ defeating Homelander. Annie's approach was working but isn't anymore as Maive is missing, her friend is dead, A-Train sold them out, the Deep has no spine, Ashley has let fear and power take over her, and Homelander controls everything now. Hugie now is a V addict, but has temporary powers, renewed confidence, and has an unstable super weapon. It all comes down to losing his morals and possibly the team to gain the ultimate victory in beating Homelander.

I think he might just misinterpreted signs that Edgar is not a normal human, and that was the show hinting at that already back then. I just don't believe that he can stay THIS cool, and not just from the outside, when talking like this to Homelander, especially after he got thrown under the bus & losing all of his soft power. Homelander is probably still scared of him because of this, the fact that Edgar is truly not afraid of him, which he can tell, probably terrifies him enough to not even try to just kill him. We saw him have a little breakdown before facing Soldier Boy already in the mirror scene later on, wondering if he could lose. I think it makes sense that he'd be afraid of that regarding Edgar too.

This episode reminds me of "the old lady who swallowed a fly, I don't know why" song I heard on Dr. Demento back in the 80's. The one that ends up with her swallowing something to swallow the item she swallowed before. they are basically jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Neither supe (dunno how many times I typed "soup".) are good people. if Soldier boy (who is not a good guy) is the only thing that can kill Homelander, what is the plan for when Soldier boy replaces Homelander? Is he going the route of making up for his "sins" after being tortured for however many years and all the crap stuff he did before it, or is he going to be like Homelander and can do what he wants when he wants because what is anyone going to do about it? I mean, because it's Ackles and all the history from Supernatural with he's got with them most of them, my only guess is a big redemption arc, but honestly I have no idea. I mean, he didn't seem to have any animosity to anyone at all. He did want the gf cos she basically sold him out and wrote him off, so that was all personal. But dunno where it goes from here. I will say that I'm expecting some interesting things to go on in the next 5 episodes.

Yeah we aren't sure where soldier boy is at but according to the EP , it's sort of like a PTSD situation, in regards to the scene where he blew up on the street. He didn't kill 19 people intentionally, he came to New York, saw the world around him vastly different then what he remembers it from 1984. He was born in 1919, was a soldier in ww2, he has a mentality from that Era, they've said he's very much the embodiment of that old toxic masculinity, his way of.thinking, his views on for ex, the gay men who walked passed him, today's age, we see that every day but to soldier boy, he's from a time when that was not something even a little bit accepted, u can see it in his face. That's why Jensen is a Top tier actor, bc his range of acting with just facial expressions is A + -- so he's already overwhelmed by new age technology, the 7 wasn't a thing back in his day, it was his team Payback, the world has literally passed him by in the last 40 years. But what made him loose control of his new power that he never had before the Russians take him, was that radio of Russians music in the truck, it's clear he heard Russian and had a flashback to all the pain and torture he went thru and it overwhelmed him to the point that he lost control. It seems, at least to me, to be tied (@ least in part) to his emotions. He was overwhelmed by the ptsd flashback of what he endured, triggered by hearing Russian voices, that he blew up a building and killed those people. I'm in no way saying, hey it's okay that he killed those 19 people with that blast, heck no! I'm just saying it wasn't his intention to. He didn't do it maliciously, he was in the middle of a FB. But he is very much an asshole, I think iensen Aikened him to old, grumpy asshole, misogynistic, but you can see even being super human, the torture he endured and for as long as he endured it, in the end their still human like us just as capable of feeling pain, and what that did psychologically to him, will be interesting to see how they play that out. Homelander vs soldier boy will be like two great white sharks fighting each other. Two extremely alpha males, who are both used to being the head honchos, come to a head. I'm under no delusion that he's not just a wounded animal, he's got those toxic views from the time he was brought up in. But I'm interested to see where they take soldier boy? Will they make.him be a weapon to take care of our homelander problem ( bc HE really is unhinged and needs to be dealt with!) But let's say he's successful, then what? Will he be then the top guy? And will he be another a* hole we have now on our hands? Or will he adapt, and be a semi- Ally of sorts? Not some goodie boy scout by any means, but not all bad like homelander? It'd be interesting whether they'll make him just another Villan OR give him some kind of roots, a chance to grow and redeem some of his more asshole qualities, perhaps a connection forged to one of our good guys that makes him a better version of himself. It'd be interesting if they did that, and who they might connect him with. Just a thought. But yeah and with crimson he clearly was surprised they didn't pay her, and he seemed very hurt that his team just turned on him, just went along with them capturing him, and that she, who he says he loved her, was holding out the hope she'd save him. At the end of the day, i think it shows even assholes are capable of feeling, and of being hurt. He's not a sociopath like storefront. And where sure, being a dick doesn't win.him points, being that way still doesn't equate being sold out by the people closest to you, given to them to be tortured for 40 years. That's gotta suck, emotionally. I don't like the people's way of thinking that soldier boy embodies, but as a human, I cannot condone that level of torture and psychological abuse, even to a person who has toxic personality traits. He's still capable of being broke down just like a regular human. It's horrifying what he went thru, I just can't wait to see where they take him. And hey, I just realized she called him Ben, so we finally got an actual name drop for soldier boy. Idk why that matters to me, just does for some reason lol

Btw, I'm pretty sure Seth Rogen is a producer, or executive producer, or some way involved with the show. He also produced the Show "Priest." That show was just as insane, gory, sexy, & just bat-shit crazy as The Boys...Maybe even more so in certain scenes. You guys should check it out, it's about a rural priest that ends up with powers, sort of... There's a junky vampire, a character that shot himself , but he lived with a scared face that makes his mouth look like an ass. Hence him name, Arse-Face. You wouldn't believe the crazy in that show, and oddly like The Boys, Priest has deeo characters, & a bat-shit crazy, but amazing story as well! Anyway, check it out some day...It was on AMC. Check out the first couple episodes, it starts out with a bang & never stops til the ending!!!

FYI Russian language is quite good in the show. A lot of people speak actual Russian like their mother tongue, and most of the others at least were growing in Russian-speaking environment, so they also speak at pretty decent level as well. This is quite the opposite of what US movies and shows usually have, because the usual is pretty bad -- actors just memorize lines and pronounce them in very unrealistic and frustrating manner, and this really alienates Russian viewers. That funny internet videos in Ep 4, as well as soviet documentaries in Ep 5 are pretty good as well. I think I'll give 9 of 10 for the work on authentic Russians in the show. Great work.

I don't think he's one of the supes. His confidence when dealing with Homelander and others is the same thing like when trainers deal with dangerous animals like lions and stuff. Showing them who is the alpha on a basic level. And Homelander also wants to prove him that he's better than him, to earn his respect. Killing him would put an end to this challenge.
