All the musicians have a musical score in front on them written ad scored by Emily herself , then Emily merely strolls in and just sits down at the piano, with no music score in front of her on her piano, and plays the most dynamic pieces of music form her heart and soul as easily a the waters flow over Niagra falls. A talent and musical genius not seen ever from some one so young. A gift form God Almighty to the whole world. A musical master at such a young age is extrodinary.

Thirty year combat Veteran here..... Just have to say that intertwined between the strokes on the Piano and the Composition was and is the elegance, destruction and moving moments including Brotherhood captured in this piece of work. There is no way I can listen to this without thinking of all we have lost on the field of battle and all we have won and all we went through....it is nostalgic. She nailed a career of war and peace....the book and the life in this Original Composition. No words....no way to listen to this without streams of tears coming down my face. I wish this way played on every base and in every Venue where Military Service members...as they are for Service and not for Glory or for fame, but it is an anthem of life and it is the diligence of her understanding that when you come through it alive or you come home without live, it ends in a crescendo. Unbelievable..... I can only say thank you, Emily. So, I say again to a young girl whom has never seen battle or Service and the duties involved, whether it be a midnight guard, a voyage at Sea, or a hostile fight....she captivated it on every note and I can only wonder how this could be? How could someone so young capture such beauty, power, hurt, pain, passion and life of what we...as those whom serve our great country endure. My crescendo is over....I hope to pass this down to many others, so they can hear their own journey being played by Miss Emily Bear. I hope she writes more for our Brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines and gives to that community that has helped forge a freedom of sorts so this lovely lady can make us all smile, weep, remember the fallen and relive the beauty and the gut wrenching agony of our firm decision to spend our life serving our Nation with pride. Our great nation.....Flawed, but yet so beautiful...as she reminds us in this song. Wow.

This recording is richer and more spectacular than the "official" recording because it was recorded from the "cheap" seats at a venue with outstanding acoustics and a sound engineer who really knew what he was doing.

Emily is a musical miracle. Compositions like this she just plays. Makes me wonder though if this kind of american patriotism is what she wants to do, if this is a part of herself. But a wondrous, emotionally laden piece of music this sure is. Can only stand in awe and wish Emily Bear strong legs to carry the wealth.

+jepz11 Your off-hand comment about "this kind of American patriotism" makes me wonder as well!!! There are a lot of things I can think of to say but then again maybe your intention was NOT to disparage the Military.
@jepz119 жыл бұрын
+brgilbert2 My opinion on 'the Military' is not important, it's also not the point I'd like to make. I do feel the miraculous talent Emily Bear has, is her own and we may be happy for everything she chooses to share of it. What she wants to achieve by her music I think should not be pushed in any direction, it needs to be her free choice only.

Just found Emily Bear on YT this morning. Hard to believe the talent so encompassing. PIanist, Composer, Arranger. Classical to Jazz too. Astounding. One of my favorite compositions is Rhapsody in Blue. A 20 minute piece. She played it at 12 yrs of age. Wonderful...

So hard to believe this comes from someone of her age -- it seems her musical talent goes far beyond age limits. She has a perception that is unheard of except in compositions from Beethoven, Schumann, Mozart, and the like. What a rare talent.
@Susan100939 жыл бұрын
This new work by Emily is quite different from her other orchestral pieces such as "Santa Fe" and "Les Voyages", and reflects the above description of the journey of a soldier (airman, sailor) in its musical construction. Other works she has done, including jazz pieces, have a main and recurring theme, but here that is not to be found. Instead we are given a series of short musical episodes. "The Bravest Journey" begins with an episode that is slow and solemn, moves through some rather intense sections and finishes with an orchestral fanfare. For me this was not an easy piece to appreciate at first, but it has grown on me. It confirms once again Emily's vast musical abilities and maturity in composition. Excellent job; much appreciated!!

+John Beall I thought I heard a recurring harmonic progression in Emily's composition, but, in any case, I liked the piece a lot. I thought it is well-thought out, with connected ideas and transitions, consistency as well, and some very nice, interesting orchestral passages.
@Susan100939 жыл бұрын
+Rudolph Gartner - Yes, in having listened several more times to this composition, I would agree with you that there are some recurring harmonic elements. However without seeing the score itself I find these hard to pick out. What I was trying to get at in my earlier post, is that there is no easily discernable main melodic theme. Yet, as you noted, the connected ideas and transitions hold this work together and make it even more memorable for a young teenage gal to pull off, with such intensity, as befits the occasion.
@rudolphgartner96689 жыл бұрын
I think you are right, John, that there is no easily discernable main theme in Emily's The Bravest Journey suite, as you aptly put it. There is a succession of melodic ideas and harmonic patterns which seem to be rolled in a random fashion, but probably are just her creative impulses at work; not really random rather more a free association type of unfolding musical images and evocations. As you state, Emily "keeps it together," through an understandable and sensible presentation and by putting in elements that tie together her various musical ideas. Plus, her orchestral effects were impressive, so yes, overall, a very impressive effort by a young teenage lady to pull off. Thanks for your input and response!

+Maik Sever - Just curious as to what you found so special in this latest work of Emily's. Perhaps you can elaborate from a musician's point of view. For example, though I am not a musician, I find the closing bars to be very original, unlike anything I've heard in all my years of listening to classical (orchestral) works.

+johnny foosball Emily main competition is European composer/pianist/violinist Alma Deutscher who is the same age and has written an excellent 40 minute violin concerto as well as an opera. Women aren't supposed to be able to compose like this. Before the last century the only female composers of note were Fanny Mendelssohn who was overshadowed by her famous brother and piano virtuoso Clara Schumann who was happy to be overshadowed by her husband.
@sadams123456789 жыл бұрын
+John Culley Alma is not the same age as Emily (Emily is 14 and Alma is 10)
@johnculley58529 жыл бұрын
+sadams12345678 Have you seen Alma sing the wicked stepsisters' duet she wrote for her operetta Cinderella? She sings it with her new sidekick Amira Willighagen who won the Holland's Got Talent competition.
@jepz119 жыл бұрын
+John Culley Interesting point you make, just, I'd rather say women are not expected to compose at all! Sexism in practice. I play flute, I did a piece by Cecile Chaminade. Wonderful composition I think, yet, all comments I've ever seen on her as a composer are derogating. Like, not bad for a woman. Who's to tell how many female composers have lived which are treated the same way, and therefore now forgotten? If Alma Deutscher is going to make a change this may be it. Don't think it is a coincidence she made a new version of Cinderella as an opera. Alma is very well aware of what she is worth.
