I’m sorry to say that the radiation was starting to have ill effects on many of the Fat Controller’s engines and the people of Sodor. Thankfully, Edward made it off the island in time, just as Henry was returning with a goods train. “What’s wrong, Edward?” Henry asked. Edward was too exhausted to speak, so his driver did so for him. “Nuclear accident. We’re staying on the mainland until it’s safe to go back.” Henry was distraught. “What will become of my forest?” he thought to himself. Both Edward and Henry knew that should they return to Sodor, it would be a very different place, where all engines seem to have gone mad and developed strange mutations. They hoped their friends would be alright, but something in Edward’s smokebox told him otherwise.

Thomas was mutated with an eye on his forehead, while Percy had his mouth completely bandaged. Toby had half of his face bandaged after what BoCo said he had a mutation which was a face inside his firebox that made Toby depressed and try to end it by ramming into the breakdown cranes. While BoCo, Annie, Clarabel, Daisy, Mavis and S.C.Ruffey had a few bruises on them, the engines were shocked and really happy to see each other, especially Thomas. Who was really worried about Edward, since he and Edward were like a father and son. The 9 engines stayed at Vicarstown shed so they could look for more survivors the next day. Talking about their events during the blast.

This is a good representation of the runaway theme in the AU. The show-canon one feels like a typical Sodor runaway. But this, in fact, feels like a life-or-death/panic-type situation, and it actually feels like escaping the nuclear power plant's shockwave. In short: It's good.

True story, I was driving home with some friends in my old Jeep when suddenly I had to slam on the brakes to make a turn. I hit the brakes to the floor and my brake line broke clean in two, cutting all brakes. I was coasting at around 60 mph and all I could think of was this song. I managed to put the passenger wheels in the gravel shoulder then pulled my E brake which finally brought me to a stop.

One small change I'd make is tapping into O'Donnell and Campbell's "the machinery makes the music" method by having a meltdown siren either segue into or out of the beat at one end of the song, either triggering Edward's escape or signaling it's reached the point of no return just as he clears the blast radius.
