'They've left us our Fenian dead'. That idea of listening to the dead is amazing. "Listening to the tradition-[Tradition is] a people." I've never heard it articulated like that, and even though I've come to understand it like that, its such a nice phrasing. As opposed to the atomised detached person today. This connects directly to the 'Somewheres' versus 'Anywheres' by David Goodheart.

We most certainly need a location to theologize, and it needs to be Irish, ultimately. By that we need to come to terms with our language in that same institute. It all needs to be carried in that sense of who we are. We can't go back to a small new church and repeat the mistakes of the 20th century and only give English the lucky role as the vernacular. We need to get a grip of this and give Irish its place, for all our sakes.
