Nothing beats the spectacular live performance in Kanchanaburi Thailand listening to the march and watching the steam train slowly make its way across the bridge at night with fireworks and spotlights and the deafening blowing the whistle. It’s quite moving I will bring a tears to your eyes. Usually performed in November but this year in December 🙏

Please note that Malcolm Arnold wrote the "River Kwai March" specifically for this great 1957 film but many years earlier Kenneth Alford wrote the "Colonel Bogey March" which is played by the piccolos at the very beginning. Malcom's "River Kwai March" serves as a great countermelody to Colonel Bogey.

Always have fond memories of this song. Me and my friends would explore the old tunnels and bunkers on Rottnest island, covered in ww2 defences ranging from concrete to tunnels of wood and congregated iron. At times as we marched across the island searching for more tunnels we would unanimously begin to whistle this tune. Good fun

To this amazing conductor: I hope this finds you alive and well. Sir, this orchestrated version of the is the best version I've found on the web of The Bridge On The River Kwai , yet it leaves out a key note (the key lick/slide) that makes the theme melody extra catchy. Thankfully you had two amazing fife players which is key to pulling in the listener. Beautiful opening by the way. Pulled me right in. This piece was rushed at 116bpm instead of 110bpm, and a much needed temporary change of a slower tempo near the end is needed. A field snare drum instead of rock snare. Why did you change the original key of the song from C to D sharp? Were you aware at the time your entire orchestra was out of tune? It was substantially sharp. Since all of the instrument were all out of tune together, the average listener won't know this. The voicing in some places was really sweet, especially the beginning. I was on a quest to find an outstanding orchestrated version of this wonderful song when I came across your beautiful channel. The motion picture soundtrack remains the best version of this song so far in my opinion. It was amazing how tight your musicians played together, especially those last five tricky notes. Easy to hear you guys have been practicing a lot, as you all sound great!! I’ve now taken it upon myself as of today, March 2024 to score and record a version of this wonderful song. Hopefully it will become the best version ever heard. Because I will have to play all of the instruments myself, (yes, all of them, of which is to my advantage) this will take some time. I also have to make arrangement for the whistling which is understandably absent in this truly wonderful video. I'll tag this once completed. Wish me luck. Take care Sir.

I first saw the film in 1958, in a theater in NY with my Czech mother. I cried when they blew up the bridge (hey, I was only 8!). Since this version does such a great job with the tune, I need to ask: isn't it two two tunes, 'The Bridge ...' AND 'Colonel Bogey' as the counter melody? Thank you.
