How I long for those days that bafana made an entire sport mad nation come to a standstill whenever they took to the field. The respect that they earned around the continent was unparalleled. @bcmhayes4 жыл бұрын
@@musandlala7991 That's right, mate. Safa is broken, and has been for ages. There's no reason a country with the talent pool and financing of South Africa, as well as the passion of the people, should have such a rubbish national team. We should look at Senegal, which is a much poorer nation with a much smaller population, yet their national team is globally competitive, they have stars and quality players in leagues across Europe. What's the difference? Less corruption in the national federation, I'd wager, but also enabling players to play their brand of football from a young age, and I mean YOUNG. In SA, we're still calling players "up-and-coming" when they're 24, 25, 26 years old. Anywhere else in the world, at that age, you're a mid-career player. Senegalese players come up through academies in Senegal from a young age, and they start getting picked up by European scouts when they're 15, 16, 17 years old. That's when SA's talented young players need to start getting noticed and moved on to bigger opportunities. But the difference is that Senegal has a number of quality academies with a lot of input from the talent developers in Europe. You don't necessarily need to so much European input, but you do need a lot of investment in youth football and academies. And we also need to really invest in our own brand of football on the pitch, like Bafana in the '90s. But that's a rant for another time, and this comment is already so long no one is going to read it, so I'll shut up.
@musandlala79914 жыл бұрын
@@bcmhayes Don't shut up, I read it all. Personally I think if the parents took interest in their children's lives, this situation would all solve itself. You know if the parents took an active part in raising their children by not allowing the children to sit and do nothing (or worse) on Saturday. Maybe a have a weekend league for the children in high school and primary. We would have more talent seen at a younger age and leave to be developed in Europe. You look at the Germany 2014 team, the majority of their players come from school football. As for SAFA they are useless.

He was deceptive in that he appeared to be slow until you tried to dispossess him then you see flames. I cannot recall one incident in this particular where he was dispossessed, perhaps a pass was intercepted but never dispossessed. Once you attain that level of respect from opponents where they "let you have the ball" to prevent embarrassment is when you realise that you have arrived as a soccer player. A highly skillful player with great vision. He played the game like he was watching it from the stands. Unbelievable.

He impressed everyone with his ball control skills. He knew how to kick the ball straight to the person he intended. His passing skills are unmatched. He didn't need to run. Wasn't Doctor sacked by Jomo Sono in the 1998 African Cup of Nations first? By the time Troussier arrived, he was no longer a regular in the team. Anyway, He deserved to be both in that Jomo Sono's team and 98 world cup. We could have done better in that world cup with him especially creating goals for Benni. I say Jomo destroyed the team Stanley Tshabalala and Barker moulded, only because of his big ego.
