The British Airways Killer: Family Terrified at the Potential Release of Joanna's Killer

Joanna Simpson was killed in 2010 by her husband, pilot Robert Brown. Their two children were in the next room when he bludgeoned her to death and then buried her in a pre-dug grave. He was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 26 years in prison.
The former pilot recently brought a High Court challenge against the government which moved to block his automatic release from prison. He claims that 'political motivation' amid a media campaign against his release improperly contributed to a decision to refer his case to the Parole Board. He has served 13 years and was due for parole last year but last October Justice Secretary Alex Chalk used new powers to have Brown's case reviewed by the Parole Board rather than allow his release on licence at the halfway point of his sentence.
Di is now waiting for the decision of the appeal - which could see her daughter’s killer freed.

I totally despair of judges and juries in UK. This is a travesty. His lawyer/judge/whoever, is beyond despicable for withholding the 'chilling clip' of her granddaughter being interviewed by police. This is a most terrible crime.

Actually she rushed ahead with the relationship and realised the mistake on her honeymoon. Then she got pregnant and felt trapped. Good thing her father made him sign a prenup. Watch the programme more than once.

I'm so puzzled by law in England. Any murderer needs to be at least serving a 50-year sentence. The fact that this murderer is serving only half the sentence because the law was changed after his conviction beggars belief. I can't understand why an appeal wasn't made for a retrial of his 'man slaughter' conviction. The lady doesn't look anything close to 85 years old, and I hope she has good security for her safety. Her life, like her daughter's, is too precious to end by the hand of another.

You cannot simply say that prosecution doesn't agree with the jury..you can't go behind their verdicts...you need grounds for appeal unfortunately...

A life sentence is 100 years. Period ,that means there sentence is 100 years. Then they're given a minimum tariff ie 25 years ,which means once they've served this they'll be considered for release . It doesn't mean they'll be released. They have to behave and prove thst they're rehabilitated. This woman knew what he was like.yet married him and had two kids with him. Then suffered the consequences of her bad judgement.

I’ve never been on a jury. Can someone please advise whether when the jury has retired to consider the verdict, do they have anyone else present? For example to ensure that one or more jurors don’t dominate the others, or if a point of law is being questioned they have legal advice immediately to hand? Are they just left to it?

I've been on a Jury twice & Coroner's Jury making it 3. You're left to your own devices! No one else just the Jury members. When you go out to deliberate the judge will give guiding questions to consider .... Yes or No answers and these determine the verdict very often. I don't know what went wrong here ! It's appalling .....

I find it quite concerning that there’s nobody else there to ensure the most forceful personalities don’t intimidate the others to agree with their verdict. The outcome of this trial is inexplicable. I do think that defence lawyers have no morals whatsoever and will ‘cheat’ in any way possible to achieve the best results for themselves, regardless of true justice.

I do not agree with Hetty, because all couples argue, and although this is a case where there was domestic abuse leading to the death of the lady, I truly believe that this will open up a can of worms for normal incidents exaggerated by over emotional partners who are in the moment in a heated argument . How does one measure coercive behaviour and does one create a law, just in case the aggressor was perhaps a little over animated at a particular point?

The facts are no matter anyone's opinions or feelings he was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced accordingly and has served his minimum time. fortunately just because someone says he shouldn't be released doesn't mean that he can be held indefinitely. im sure he will have conditional restrictions on his release.

@@benharry9117 but it's not so get over it, the remaining time on his sentence is meant to be a deterrent as it's the time left to serve if he commits any crime and is recalled back to prison, he would then have to carry out any other sentence consecutively. Would you rather he served his full time and had zero restrictions on his release? Imo that would make someone with harmful intent far more dangerous.
