I've found evidence that Elizabeth Barrett plagiarized "Lady Geraldine's Courtship" from Mathew Franklin Whittier, the younger brother of American Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier. It is in that poem which one finds brief praise of Robert Browning's poetry, which initially drew him to Elizabeth. Apparently Elizabeth never confessed, so she attracted Robert on a false basis.
