There have been a number of dictators throughout History who met a rather bloody and brutal downfall. The Ceausescu's had been in power in Romania for decades until the Romanian Revolution rose up. Elena Ceausescu met her future husband as they were members of a Communist group, and as he rose to power in Romania Elena also rose. She became a prominent figure who was known as 'The Mother Of The Nation,' but she was a woman who could be very sharp tongued and rather brutal in her own manner. She was power hungry and determined for further advancement, but in 1989 when the Romanian Revolution broke out she was ousted from power.
Elena Ceausescu was eventually arrested alongside her husband and was brought to a hastily arranged trial. The Ceausescu's were sentenced to death for ordering the military to fire upon civilians and because of this they were swiftly executed outside the place they were tried. Elena went to her execution kicking and screaming, and along with her husband the Dictator, they were both executed by the revolutionaries.

I was in Geneva when the Caucescu regime fell. The parade of cars filled with people cheering and waving flags was something I will not forget

I have a friend who lived under those two monsters. He and his family were devout Christians. They were terribly mistreated. My friend told of being ordered by his communist school teachers to move his desk out into the hall during school because he was a Christian. Then he was told to move his desk back into the classroom to be tested on what the teacher had just taught, out of his hearing. By the grace of God, he is now a successful head X-Ray Technician in a local hospital. The last time I made a comment on these two monsters, I was met by protest from a supporter of these two devils. I replied then and will state now, I will take the word of my friend who lived through their reign of terror over anything supporters of the demonic Ceausescus have to say.

I went to school with one of the great-grandchildren of Carol I (maybe 2-great-grandchild... it was a long time ago) and remained in touch with him after HS. I called him the day after the Ceausecus died and he had been crying for hour. To him that day was one of the happiest days of his life and he was praying for the restoration of King Michael. Sadly, that did not happen and he has since passed away.

One of my teachers in middle school was the daughter of the cultural attache of the Romanian embassy to the United States. She taught world history and during the revolution she bought a television into the classroom so we could watch and make comments. When they announced the executions she did a little Hooray!

Yes, I had read that, too. He said they said open fire and his gun swept both people and then others started firing. They should build a monument to the gunner. I hate that this stuff has to happen, but in the real world some people are left to carry out the trash.

I was 10 years of age when this happened and I remember it vividly on the news here in England. I also remember being totally horrified when the orphanages were brought to light, especially with the poor children who had to live in such squalor, some of whom had HIV.

In 1990 French forensics experts studied the execution video and came to the conclusion it was staged and both of the Ceausescu‘s had been executed hours earlier with shots to the head. After the fall, Ceausescu and his wife escaped via helicopter and was dropped off near a military base. After a few days his second in command of security forces/secret police decided to save himself by having the president and his wife killed. Sadly , most of those in government and secret police who carried out the mass murders of students , the overseas assassinations of those who spoke I’ll of the president and regime and those who violently moved citizens from the country, into the city , to work in factories. They escaped the firing squad.
