Those stickers were actually a benefit.... As a teenager, I wouldn't buy an album unless it had it on it. That was the only way I knew I was getting the real deal and not some edited version

Sir SpookyBones I think they are less common now sadly. I’m hard pressed to find new albums that have parental advisory stickers on them. That’s why I internally jump for joy when I scrounge up a used CD that still has the original parental advisory sticker; the sticker had all but been replaced by artists who just include the parental advisory into the album’s front cover art.

I know! FORBIDDEN FRUIT is best for selling product! FUN FACT! when Looney Giuliani was mayor of NYC, a rich art collector decided to troll the mayor, who was a Fake Moralist like Tipper Gore.... and the art collector held a show featuring work he owned... by a variety of "controversial" artists.... so the rich dude... SENT A CATALOG of the show to Rudy's City Hall, saying "you should stop these vulgar pigs, who are showing vulgar art in a PUBLIC museum!!".....and Idiot Rudy TOOK THE BAIT and publicly slammed the museum and the artists. LINES WENT AROUND THE BLOCK for months and Rudy made EACH of the artists AND the collector VERY VERY RICH, ha ha ha ha!!!! The MSM never told anyone the WHOLE story. Just that Rudy got emasculated etc in this huge fight.

John Denver also made the best Christmas album ever recorded, period. I can`t help wonder if his credibility in court was tied to how awe inspiring his renditions of O Holy Night and What Child Is This? were and still are. Being much of the courts are made up of Christian conservatives and were even more so back then I`m going to assume the spirit of Rocky Mountain Christmas was what drove the PMRC trial in favor of Dee Snider and 2 Live Crew as opposed to evil Grinches like Tipper Gore. I push them to find any musician who is in favor of censorship. Even if they write clean lyrics, they don't want to be told what they aren't allowed to write, and all it takes is one person to twist the lyrics into being offensive for a witch hunt to start. Pretty much every musician will have experienced that in some form, so no, they aren't going to find any support from musicians and song-writers. Even the likes of Bach, who didn't have lyrics to his music, was told that he can't play that because of tritones or because the image is that of something offensive.

The clerk saw the warning sticker and asked to see my ID. I turned to my mom (and mind you, I was already well over six feet tall and clearly not a child) asked, "Mommy, can I have permission to buy this tape?" The clerk shut up and took my money. Let's not forget that the PMRC wanted to slap a sticker on Frank Zappa's Jazz From Hell album for explicit lyrics. Spoiler: it was an instrumental album.

Pretty good (albeit brief) history lesson! Two little cents of my own to throw in: 1. People do still buy CDs. I have thousands and still continue to buy them. 2. Many artists, particularly in rap, see that Parental Advisory sticker as a status symbol. Even though it's meant to deter people from buying those albums, many people sought out those albums BECAUSE they had that sticker on them. The irony is that sticker helped sell many albums, even outside of rap.

To censor music you need to censor virtually all history, As what does history show us, mass murder, torture, massacres, wars to steal from other countries etc If the music is damaging what does history do to our "innocence" , because we dont learn from it other wise this world would be a utopia Music is not forced upon you, you can choose to turn it off or not buy it They dont censor wartime songs which depict hate against other races, if anything they encourage it so they should but out as its hypocritical, I think bluntness in art is vital, they dont cover up Michelangelo david's nob even tho it can be deemed as sexually explicit, Could be part of the reason i like rammstein so much as the lyrics are extreamly blunt and to the point, We are told to be ourselves and be proud of our uniqueness as individuals, Then get told that its not correct, DEAR MOTHER DEAR FATHER EVERY THOUGHT I'D THINK YOU'D DISAPPROVE CURATOR DICTATOR ALWAYS CENSORING MY EVERY MOVE CHILDREN ARE SEEN BUT ARE NOT HEARD TEAR OUT EVERYTHING INSPIRED

You'd want to do the OPPOSITE of censor, if your opponent is a lying liar. (Now, most "liberals" are phonies, so that confuses it even more.) (Hypocrisy 101.)

I was a rebellious teen in the 80s-90s and the parental advisory lable only made me want the albums more. Perfect example, I've always been a mtalhead but the controversy over two live crew getting that label only made me curious enough to buy the album and I typically didn't listen to rap. so in my case the label didn't stop me from buying, it did the opposite,I wanted it more!!!

*Graham* ( _@grahamwire_ ), At *13:47* you spoke with *great profundity* in saying that... " *...Cannibal Corpse* ( _and therefore logically, by extension, all similar artists_ ) are a *_symptom_* of humanity's sicknesses, not *_the cause_* of it". Indeed, all art, including music, is a mirror which reflects whatever stands before it. And people's natural reaction when seeing their own reflection is to fix the imperfections that they see... from actions as benign as combing their hair, all the way to heavily layering on makeup in order to deceive others...and even themselves in a vain attempt to gain the affections and approval of others. At its best, we call this _having a neat appearance._ At its worst, we call it *_being a poser!_* *_Either way, we all recognize the imperfections we have..._* and it is the outward ones that are the easiest to deal with...the inward ones however...they are the ones that cause people to do desperate things, such as *drugs and alcohol, violence, self mutilation...and even suicide.* We inwardly recognize that we are *"sick"* ...but *_rarely_* do we acknowledge this outwardly. For by our *conscience* ( *_with knowledge_* ) we _instinctively_ recognize an objective moral standard, but fear being accountable for our actions...or even acknowledging that there is an _objective morality_ for measuring our accountability. Instead, we continue day by day with our _charade_ and fight tooth and nail to hang on to our mirror, and our methods for *masking the ugliness within,* rather than acknowledging the terrifying prospect that *_we do not possess within ourselves the ability to free ourselves._* So we comfort ourselves by embracing the lies and denying the truth. *_And this is what is boldly reflected in our art!_*
