Always regarded this as a "pocket" Battlestar, much quicker/cheaper to build than the Mercury class in response to the slow-down in military spending as peacetime ran on. In light of it's age now, likely an initial design that later paved the way to designing the Jupiter as a culmination of what they learned.

If I'm naming a Valkyrie I'm going all the way back to Norse mythology with the most famous ex-warrior spirit of them all: Brynnhilde!

Those ( shaped additions; I like to believe those were to provide the ships with a AWACS style sensor upgrade. Since we seen them patrolling the border to Cylone space, it only makes sense to upgrade them to see as far into it as possible to monitor movements. If threatened, they could FTL away.

I think this smaller BS would be ideal for convoy escorts and/or patrol or picket ship. Possible names: Virago, Aslaug, Brynhidr, Svava, Rota. I personnally like Mist, especially for raids and deep recon missions.

@HangarBay I’ve Heard some people claim that the Rear spoiler on The Valkyrie class is in fact the heat dispersal unit intend to allow the Valkyrie to operate with higher output efficiency when in combat without the risk of causing a meltdown in the reactor core. And if chance to name two twin Valkyries built at the exact same time it would be Apollo and Artemis.

More like a destroyer class and someone beat to the name Brynnhilde so I expect the SIF , Fryea as next ones It’s to bad the series of 2003 followed the original in only having to active Capitol ships I always thought it a mistake considering long range patrols between the colony systems they decided to put all the eggs in one basket again If they do a reboot I’d like to see galactica with more support ships like the Val along with civilian assets and a larger fleet I could see the storie lasting longer and not all the weight on galactica but her acting as fleet command instead that way the show name still makes sense

The Valkerie that was destroyed was in the middle of refueling at the station nd it was conventional but compared to other payloads it was heavy conventional warheads nd if the fuel wasnt with the station nd it undocked like SOP no way the rockets would have completely eliminated it. The thing is the virus shutdown almost everything even radio so I do not why the fuel wouldnt been locked up in emergency setting. The Valkerie was suppose to be more against electonic enemy warefare jamming missles etc the virus completely made this ship useless i think even the guns and turrets were completely electonic. I have 2 14 inch ones nd when you line them up against the jupiter its crazy i hate the marine landing craft looking one

I guess the philosophy of the Battlestar Galactica was exactly as they fought would happen (and why no networked systems), so what they do upgrade every other ship with computers and just assumed that they made them immune to attack and very secure ,but they forgot to take the human element that the cyclones exploited that so when they thought that they could scan their ships to disable them and then blow them up, it was because they actually got the command codes for every ship so when they scan them, they just transmitted the codes to the ships to shut down and blown up (as it was an very coordinated multi attack they never worked out how they managed to compromise all the ships and just assumed they just simply hacked them and disabled them),when it was actually one person who caused mass eradication event

I believe she is late war , but she has equal or more firepower, than jupiter, she just has lighter armour, she has smaller guns but more of them , and she can fire more missiles, The jupiter had 20 tw8n batteries, plus her missiles tubs valkerie had 52 , and she had a better cwis system. And she was continuously modified over the decades, remember galactica was considered astep down for adama a bucket, Oh there ships that look like jupiters that were not the original 12 , there are s different class and different on the inside , and they ships mace during the war and those made years or decades later were cery different ships , Galactica can take more punishment
