Found my dads hacksaw amongst the ones I had. Nothing fancy just stamped with his initials. It is now the only one hanging up. I mentally say “ come on dad lets cut this”. I often smile when I do. One of his small hammers is on the peg board too. You never forget but often fail to remember till something prods your brain… a hacksaw or hammer perhaps!!!

love your post, @St A & M Rly…My 95yo dad is in poor health and living with my wife and me…I inherited (early) all of his tools, which were almost as many as mine…among them I found sooo many that I remember him using when I was a child…it kinda makes my eyes sweat knowing he’ll never touch any of them again, but it gladdens my heart knowing I have them to use…and I do use them often.

Last year my Christmas gift to a friend was an axe once owned by the medieval Robert the Bruce, King of Scots. But I had to confess that in the last 700 years it has had five new heads and seven new shafts!😊

I have so many of my dad's tools and often pause and say "thanks dad" while I'm using them. So many fond memories of him teaching me how to use them or just using them as a kid, helping him make or repair things around the house on the weekends. They're just an old tool to someone else but to me they're nearly priceless.

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend My Mechanics KZbin channel. The man is amazing--he restores things, from tools to toys (see the scooter) and puts all the others to shame. A real craftsman, very thorough and a joy to watch. And NO MUSIC, just the sound of tools working. Anyone who watches this excellent, informative channel will like My Mechanics, too. And then you can all put together your own ax. WooHoo!

When I bought my house my dad gave me my maternal grandfather's sledgehammer, who died just before my 1st birthday. It has my grandfather's initials welded into it. First time I used it the handle broke off at the head. I put a new handle on it. The old oak handle was still good except for where the head was. Grandpa was a fisherman, and so am I. So I cleaned the old handle up, finished it with spar urethane, and turned it into a gaff.

I just received my kit in the post, all the way from Oregon to Fife, Scotland. I have to say, the leather is beautiful! I recently inherited some old axes from my 96 year old grandfather who passed away this year, he died in the same farmhouse he was born in. I'm looking forward to restoring the axes, putting an EC cover on a couple of them to pass on to my kids in a few years. Thanks Scott and Nate for the great service.

When it comes to wood, I reach for a motor beaver instead of an axe. That said, I keep an axe in the trunk of my car and it has two saves under its bit. I've cut out two car windshields with it as the result of bad crashes. Had the windshields out before fire rescue got there so they could get to the the entrapped victim.

Tony I used to carry a Boys axe in my Pickup Under the seat . It came in handy many times , Clearing downed trees on the Road while hunting , quick jobs on the Farm . I had an old Beagle who used to get excited every time He saw it . If you laid the Axe on the groung he would instantly go over and Sit on it ? Dog had a sense of Humor it sort of makes my Axe Valuable . But not as good as your Lifesaver Axe .

Quick little tip I figured out while hefting an old Adze. When you're doing the final fit/finish, if you use an angle grinder with a higher grit flap disc, it burns the chamfer in and it looks awesome. Don't be afraid to hold it on there for a few seconds while she smokes.

Hi I have a question id appreciate some wisdom on. I am 2 years into my beautiful journey as a carpenter. I have been working on a project for 6 months in Manchester England, renovating a beautiful old Edwardian community center, I have met 3 other lads here who are similar age and also love their job, turn up on time and work hard. We want to continue working together. The question is, shall we stay self employed and just work under one name or actually have a company which we are all payed from, but one of us will most likely oversee. I'd prefer to stay self employed, doing my accounts and having the freedom but what do you guys think?
