Even when I was a little kid, It always made me melancholy, thinking of my great grandmother who was a flapper in the 20's and my other grandparents who would all tell stories about life way back when. This song and video really is a marker of changing time. How the imagery mixes old looks with newer looks and the sound does the same. I love it.

There's a reason why your grandma that's posts videos to her Facebook don't get the same amount of views as talented people. Plus there are more talented musicians now then back then. I was 14 in 1979 when I bought the 33 RPM from which this song is extracted, "The Age of Plastic". I had heard in a Hi-Fi shop in Rome, Italy, as a test record for a turntable and a couple of loudspeakers of recent production which were presented to the customers. Though I was 14 I had somewhat sensed that its lyrics would be going to be catchy and lasting because played in the key of nostalgia. And the years to come proved me right. In hindsight it was the song that shut the 1970s and introduced the 1980s.

I remember hearing this song on the radio as a kid in the morning just before school and started randomly singing it 25 years later in my car coming from work so had to KZbin it, the nostalgia ❤️

The guy on the keyboards, dressed in black, near the end of the video is Hans Zimmer. He went on to become one of the greatest composer for film in Hollywood. Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, The Last Samurai, The Da Vinci Code, The Lion King are just some of the movies her wrote the music for.
