The bull and steer mob get to try out their new rock pad drinking skirts on our new farm pond. Sure is a nice sight to see animals drinking quality water from a firm rock surface without standing in mud up to their belly. It's better for the pond and animals along with increased profits from better animal performance.

Plus that rock skirt makes a great boat launch for when you want to fish it.

This pond will be a good comparison of a little trampling and not trampling on the effects on the vegetation, keep a lookout for it.

What would be needed to call the rock skirt a gravel boat launch? Something like going 12 feet further out? There will be some land owners who will spring for a boat launch who would not go for a skirt.

I am assuming this is the pond level before you got that torrential rain? Love to see a before and after the rains.

I bet those ponds are full now, some places in north central MO got 3-6 inches. We also got it pretty good here in Southern Illinois.

No, we are far from full but at least this helped. We’ve been in a 2+ year drought.

Thanks for the video! I need a pond with a rock skirt. It looks fantastic, and you made those rock skirts just in time with the rains you got too. How full are the ponds now? Thanks for the help with the auction!

The three ponds that we put the rock skirts on mostly full . 2 of the ponds have water coming out the spillway, 3rd pond is 3” from coming over the spillway. You had a nice trio of South Poll heifers that sold well in our auction. Somebody got a great start to their own grass genetic cow herd.

That is money well spent for a lifetime watering point that does not destroy your pond every time the cows drink. Quality water with good solid base to drink from will pay huge dividends.

Aren't they still going to drop turds on that apron, which the rain will leech then into the pond water ?
@gregjudyregenerativerancher
@gregjudyregenerativerancher Ай бұрын
A couple manure pats on the apron is nothing when you have 10 million gallons of pond water to dilute it with.

That’s why we put in three different sets of fiberglass posts that extend out into the water. As the water drops or rises we can adjust our poly rope.
