im a Manc, supported united for 49 years. my dad was a united fan up till the crash and he told me the stories of the side and for him as a boy watching them. remember the conditions they played in, not on a snooker table pitch and beach ball they play with today and yet there style of football captured the country. my dad could never bring himself to watch united after the event, it tore the heart out of him and the city. These youngsters who call us names, who sing songs about the crash dont know that an ex City player died in the crash.

No problem, its good to remember where we come from. Youngsters today need to learn that United are not about Sir Alex and the last 20 odd years. We are more than that as a club, the history is amazing and I asked the younger supporters to read up just a little and see beyond the premiership years and look what a fantastic club we are.... Nobody has the history we do.

I can identify with all that. Here in Ireland, United have a huge following. Many fly over each weekend,at great cost to see them play. They have a bigger following here than any other English team. Nearly all Irish soccer fans support an English team,plus some Scottish,on top of the local Irish teams

When one puts everything into perspective I think one (at least, in my case) has no doubt that this was the greatest side we have ever had in our club. Manchester United lost the greatest side they have had in 1958. That's our tragedy. Yet we still came back and ruled the footballing world. That's our resurrection. Still, there is just too much frustration and longing to grasp "what could have been" whenever I read and listen about the Busby Babes. It eats me like many others around the world from the inside.

My Uncle told me about a game against Spurs when he was stood in the Stretford End, He said Big Dunc had a shot from 30 yards that hit the bar and flew up and hit the corrugated roof of the stand. Now anyone who remembers the old Stretford End will know that is a fair old height for the ball to have rebounded! He said the bar seemed like it was shaking for five minutes.

Touching story that I as an American have never heard very much about, it puts so much into perspective about the club I support. Contemporaries of Edwards have been unstinting in their praise of his abilities. Bobby Charlton described him as "the only player that made me feel inferior" and said his death was "the biggest single tragedy ever to happen to Manchester United and English football".[75] Terry Venables claimed that, had he lived, it would have been Edwards, not Bobby Moore, who lifted the World Cup trophy as England captain in 1966.[49] Tommy Docherty stated that "there is no doubt in my mind that Duncan would have become the greatest player ever. Not just in British football, with United and England, but the best in the world. George Best was something special, as was Pelé and Maradona, but in my mind Duncan was much better in terms of all-round ability and skill."[76] In recognition of his talents Edwards was made an inaugural inductee to the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002...HEARD ABOUT BUSBY BABES BUT NEVER IN SO MUCH DETAIL>>THANKS TO MARK>>> THIS SHOWS US WHAT THEY WERE>>>FANTASTIC VIDEO MARK>>>>LOVED IT>>>>MAN UTD ARE THE GREATEST>>>>GGMU.....RIP BUSBY BABES AND LONG LIVE MAN UTD.....

as far as I'm concerned the busby babes are manchester united. they encapsulate everything this club is about. the trust placed in youth to carry the club forward. it didn't matter to them what happened on the pitch they would carry on playing in the same no holds barred attacking spirit. the last game they played in England was a fitting tribute to them and is still to this day believed to be one of the best games ever played. I have known about of people who saw them play and had the privilege to talk to them about this great team. everyone of them said the same thing, big Duncan was the greatest player they ever saw. they can't all be wrong.

Yes after watching the movie and realizing that they earned regular money to the extent that they joked about hiding the fact that they were footballers when wooing a lady made me angry and then tear up. These guys played for playing sake. I feel for their families who had to make do on the remains of such salaries given that footballers retire so early, and especially in the case of the Busby babes who met an untimely death. I wish big money would get taken out of football, but that footballers would get paid a very good salary that compensates for the fact that they are guaranteed to retire young (anywhere between 2x to 5x the salary of a top whitecollar job sounds fair to me. Their sponsorship deals etc are their business/brand and hence remain unaffected). At the moment the opulence is disgusting as on average they earn an white collar job's annual salary in a week. Unfortunately it is too late to take money out of football - now that the footballing world has tasted this amount of wealth, they will resist any attempts to bring common sense regulation. Money and agents, the two things that are ruining football. I fear to think what the next world transfer fee will be. Match ticket prices and club merch prices will keep climbing, and wages and signing-on fees will also keep climbing. Hopefully FIFA stalls this obviously unsustainable trend soon with some common sense transfer regulations and consumer fairness regulations.

Since the disaster, Manchester United have gone on to win the European cup just 10 years later. We've won more first division titles than any other club in the land! We had the greatest manager of all time (along with Sir Matt Busby) in Sir Alex Ferguson. We've had the greatest players in the world and we've won multiple European cups and Champions Leagues, Club World cups. And right now we're in a fantastic position with Mourinho. But my question to you Mark is... IF that disaster hadn't of happened and the players from that team survived and went on to win everything, would Manchester United as a club and team be in an even better position now?

A good side but did not blow all teams away, unlikely to beat Manchester City in comparison

Heartwarming tribute Mark. If you love the club, Feb 6th is reserved for looking back and appreciating and holding your respect and thoughts with the warriors of '58... never forget. Keep the flag flying high!

I cannot remember exact scoring stats about Tommy Taylor but I think his goals to games ratio is the best if any CF
@UnitedStand7 жыл бұрын
I think it is Geoff? Something like 130 goals in 180 games?
@geoffholt99397 жыл бұрын
The United Stand about 0 .78 a goal a game. Denis and Rudd are next?

at that time they where one of the best teams but theres if's but's maybe if they went on to dominate world football but for me team i always think as the greatest is the 60s with best law charlton

Gavlaa _13 having watched the busby babes and the holy trinity years,i would make this observation,the busby babes were about all out attack as some of the scores back up.also nobody knows how far they would have gone,but for sheer technical brilliant entertainment i would side with law best and charlton.the 60s were a team of individuals but the babes were a team!!george was the most natural talent ever to play for us,duncan was prob the best all round performer,and my own personal fav-denis law was the most exciting.bobby was blessed to play a huge part in both teams
