The passionate way the band perform here shows that I am Australian is a perfect song for an Australian anthem

Fantastic song ...sung by an Australian legend who wrote the song. He sang this at my brother in law’s memorial recently... they played cricket together. Yes, it definitely should be our anthem

👏👏👏Absolutely awesome!🙌 Though I am an immigrant to Australia, this song always makes me feel like a true blue Aussie. Though it isn’t the national anthem, it’s my Aussie National Anthem. Thank You, Dobe, Bruce and Bushwackers.❤️🇦🇺

A real delight to stumble across this performance. Many would agree that without the Bushwackers, Aussie colonial / trad folk wouldn't have made it past the 1970s. The song - Aussie sentimentality hot'n'strong.

I must say I do prefer the standard order of the verses, popularised by the Seekers, if only because that way if feels as if it’s telling the story of Australia from past to present, but Dobe sings it with such passion and feeling, you just feel regret at missing the verses, then joy to realise he has placed them in a different way. An amazing performance, told by a true storyteller, as an immigrant who has become Australian, and having two daughters who are so proud to have been born Australian, not to mention a person who feels songs very deeply, this song has me in tears every time I listen to it. I do like our national anthem, but I think this song would not only be sung with pride, but with genuine feelings that the singer can relate to the words. I would certainly join the chorus to make this our national anthem, I think in the hearts of most people it already is.

Great to hear this rendition of this superb song sung with a Aussie accent and style. The Seeker versions are great but there voices are very sort of refined upper English pompous accents. This the real Aussie style.

The Seekers are Australian as the Bushwhackers. To say anything else is a form of snobbishness.

Listen and compare this version to that presented by Bruce Woodley. Bruce has a great vrsion performed with his daughter Claire at the Victorian Bushfies Victims Concert. These are the two men who composed the verses. Also note that Dobe' and Bushies version does not start with the first verse so the reference to the First Australians is missing. They are from different backgrounds musically but that is also the mesage of the song.

Sadly, the first verse is missing I came from the dream-time From the dusty red-soil plains I am the ancient heart The keeper of the flame I stood upon the rocky shores I watched the tall ships come For forty thousand years I've been The first Australian

I hope nobody thinks that I have been disrespectful towards this excellent song by using it as the basis of a song parody about the Murdoch tabloid in the one newspaper town that I live in.
@paulnorton28853 жыл бұрын
Here is the first verse and chorus of the parody: You've been reading us with breakfast for at least a hundred years And the smudging of our newsprint is the smallest of our smears If you think that people who don't look like you should be in jail We've got everything for you and yours, we're the Mediocre Mail Chorus: We are owned by one of three men And he soon will be one of just two And he hates the lower classes We're your paper - the Mediocre Mail.

We maintain our circulation by exciting base desires We've a staff of alcoholics, demagogues and cunning liars And incompetent sub-editors whose grammar often fails But we like to do things different at the Mediocre Mail Chorus: We are trite and full of trivia And distract you from important things We'll fill your head with stuff and nonsense We're your paper - the Mediocre Mail
@paulnorton28853 жыл бұрын
And final verse and chorus: We support God and free enterprise and we fight the evil Reds And we do it all the easy way by libelling the dead We believe in one Australia where the Right and whites prevail And our title is our audience - the Mediocre Male CHORUS: We are crass and unenlightened And your prejudices we'll confirm We'll feed your fears and fan your hatreds We're your paper - the Mediocre Mail We are, you are, the Mediocre Male
