Have you checked out any Gram Parsons? He was briefly in the Byrds and then a solo career before his death. His work with Emmylou Harris is really worth a listen.

Classic! I recall a bootleg tape in the 90's of REM with Robyn Hitchcock covering You Ain't Goin' Nowhere. Originally by Dylan with the Band on The Basement Tapes

@@mattjohn4731 I still have my copy of that "Great White Wonder" bootleg album with some of the Woodstock sessions with The Band. Bought it from a guy walking around Harvard Square with an armful of them in 1969. The first three songs I learned off it were "I Shall Be Released", "Nothing Was Delivered ", and "You Ain't Going Nowhere". Horrible audio quality, but what great songs. I must admit the upbeat versions of "I Shall Be Released" and "You Ain't Going Nowhere" with Happy Traum on the "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Volume II" quickly became my favorites. And I got a kick out of how he name checked Roger McGuinn for messing up a couple of phrases in the Byrds cover of "You Ain't Going Nowhere" in the song.

My favorite Byrds track. The Byrds got their sound after hearing "Needles And Pins" by The Searchers.

perhaps, but they credit George Harrison and the BEatles for the Rickenbacker 12 string guitar sound they adapted.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Shawn!!! My favorite song by the Byrds! Love the harmonies, the 12 string, and tambourine. You are one of my fav reaction channels.

Tom Petty covered this song! I'd say the Byrds are his most obvious influence. Along with Bob Dylan

12 String Rickenbacker jangles and great Harmonies...hell yea
@jeffmorse6453 ай бұрын
I love this song. Those great harmonies and the jangly Rickenbacker guitar. Seriously, a lot of people can relate to the lyrics about being in a situation that turned bad and it's just a relief when that person is out of your life. The upbeat sound really fits that.
@Blue-qr7qe3 ай бұрын
That 12 string played by Jim McGuinn is pretty much signature for the Byrds sound. David Crosby is playing guitar and singing here, as well.
@billbitterman94873 ай бұрын
The great Roger (Jim) McGuinn on his 12 string Rickenbacher electric guitar. That and harmonies helped define their sound. I don't play much electric but this song is the reason I wanted a 12er in my collection. Mine however is an acoustic but still sounds full and awesome

Nice! "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better" was one of the tunes that got me through the pandemic. I've known the song for decades, but it just hit the right spot during those dark times. When you're ready for more from The Byrds, check out some of their country tunes, "Tulsa County" and "Hickory Wind", or more of their Dylan covers, "Positively 4th Street", and "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue".

Oh for the days when you could flip on the radio and hear great stuff like this. The Byrds were my favorites and the Yardbirds were second. My ex had some musical interaction with McGuin. She said he was a genuinely nice guy, helpful and generous. "Chimes of Freedom" and "5D (fifth dimension)" are Byrds classics. Both still give me chills all these years later

There are two live versions of The Byrds play Lover of the Bayou you can tell one of them they had forming it very long at the other do you can tell that they improved greatly. This is late 60s everything gets more psychedelic and the music is raw.

There's a ton of Byrds music worth checking out. Try "She don't care about time", "Wasn't born to follow", "My back pages", or their version of "Goin' back". And yup - Rickenbacker 12. Roger McGuinn is the reason I play a 12-string myself :)

one of the best 60's bands - their first hit on the airwaves was 'mr.tambourine man' written by bob dylan. they did a few dylan tunes changed up a bit and done in their own style. i remember seeing them do that song on some show in '65. that's when roger mcguinn went by his real first name ' jim mcguinn'. later on he started using his middle name roger. don't know why - i just remember jim with his granny glasses. this is still my favorite byrds tune

When I was kid, I chose the Byrds over the Rolling Stones in 1965, who released satisfaction around the same time.. I wonder of that country song stole the idea from this Byrds song. It was called "I'm so miserable now that you're gone, it;s almost like having you here..."😂
