@boomerdell7 ай бұрын
I’ve watched a lot of lessons on CAGED, and Brian, I can tell you in all honesty this lesson, this approach, is exactly what I need. It’s the best, most understandable, and most easily applied CAGED lesson I’ve ever seen. So a resounding “Yes!” from me in answer to your question whether you should turn this into a serious on the remaining CAGED shapes. Fantastic!

you do realize that you present so much knowledge in one video, its overwhelming to we beginners. But I am so grateful.
@_underscore_92717 ай бұрын
That's what the chapters are good for, watch as much as you can absorb, practice it, then come back to finish the lesson once you're comfortable with what you've learned
@78tag7 ай бұрын
Yes, all the theory can be overwhelming if you try to bite off more than you can chew. Believe me, if you can just stay with what he is doing in that four fret space (that is the E chord in a "C shape") and accept that you are doing nothing more than cowboy chords up the neck you can get a lot out of this. Let all the talk about scales, Mixolydian, Major/minor, the other CAGED shapes etc... go by, that stuff can be absorbed and will make more sense later. In the meantime you will have gotten a lot further ahead because of this lesson. Learn it. I wasted a lot time and opportunity to be a better player trying to "know" everything instead of putting more energy into just playing. You can do that with this lesson. The first goal of learning to play guitar is to enjoy playing. Sorry, I got a little carries away with this comment but I can tell from yours that you appreciate how good these lessons are. :)

I agree that his lessons are among the best but sometimes it's good to get another perspective from others and there are a few really good ones out there. Nothing wrong with a second "good" opinion. I got an awakening from this episode because of some excellent ideas I have learned elsewhere. He has a way of putting things in simple terms. Use every resource that helps. It only makes the lessons here make more sense.

Great lesson as always. I love those eye opening- break through- ah ha moment lessons of yours. This lesson was one of them for me in a few areas. I had to stop the tape several times to ponder those moments and put it in perspective (for me) so that I got a grasp on those enlightenments. The best for me was near the end of the video where you went from C shape E chord to E shape A chord at the 18:00 minute mark of the video. This could be used for a one- four- five blues progression (when soloing). I can now easily move/transition from the one chord to the four chord in my blues solos....I only need to learn the E shapes of the cage system.....Then I believe I will be able to better visualize what's happening and where to go within that small area of the neck (when going from the one chord to the four chord in a blues solo) :) Very helpful in tying together what I already know without having to relearn it from scratch! I would love to see more of the same.

Nice lesson. I really like this information. I’m the guy you have to explain everything to. Even the things that should be obvious. For instance I’m an intermediate level of understanding the basics of the CAGED system. And it’s fun playing cord progressions higher up the neck, but I know there is more that can be done using the CAGED system that I can’t see. The problem for me is I don’t know, what I don’t know. So I can’t ask question that would help me grow and understand. So it takes someone like you to bring up lessons like this lesson that opens my eyes and I can learn and grow.

@bradreid60577 ай бұрын
Brian, glad you started with the C shape. What's interesting about the "Cowboy C chord" shape we all learn is it comprises part of a Cowboy D chord shape (on the G, B and E strings) welded to a Cowboy E chord shape (on the E, A and D strings). I guess I've said this correctly that its Cowboy form "straddles" two chord shapes. It seems this sharing of the two chord shapes really expands the number of scales one has access to. Looking forward to hearing/seeing more.

Great 'Swiss Army Knife' analogy/package!! Doing the same thing with the other shapes is a fabulous idea. By doing that, the lights will come on that - the 5th string root note of the C shape is also The 5th string root of the A shape... Think of A as 'going north' and C is 'going south' off that 5th string root... (And the D shape is the 'southern' neighbor of the C shape) Again, great work!!
