Been a rocker for a long, long time, listened to a lot of music, attended a lot of concerts, worked at Mother Blues, Dooley's, in Dallas in the '70's, this is top twenty, especially when Garth Hudson accompanied on his Lowrey organ in the official video. When you can listen to a song for the 100th time and enjoy it as if it's the first, it's a rocker.

I saw them in 1983 at the Cleveland Agora and again in 1990 in Columbus OH. Both were awesome shows and totally different in character. One was in the middle of a school day when I was in high school and another was at night on a weekend when I was in medical school. I got to meet Michael Been at Mean Mr Mustards after the second show.

I saw the Call in 1986 at Central Michigan University. I believe it was the last show of the tour. They played the whole “into the woods” album for the encore. They were headed into the studio shortly thereafter to record it… If memory serves. It would be cool if someone could confirm this 🙂. Michael announced what they were doing and asked if it was “ok”. I remember they returned to the stage shrouded in plumes of smoke ( we were in the front row ). Great show!

"Corporate criminals, playing with tanks..." as long as the hijinks don't involve driving one to the front in an honest-to-God shooting war. Can't count the money if yours takes a direct hit, "brews up," and you couldn't get out because of burning fuel, ammo cooking off, and maybe an ex- fellow crew member ("ex-" equals "dead," BTW) laying on the only way out... Difficult to believe that this song is *decades* old, Michael has passed away, and my long, once-black Afro has either turned grey and migrated to my chin or straight up fallen out. Timeless, frighteningly appropriate song...

@shantijoe the gig was at 'The Venue' in victoria, london (its a theatre now), The Call opened for an irish new wave band called 'Auto Dafe'. the band had a brief technical hiccup at the beginning: started into the first song then stopped playing, walked off and came back when the roadies had sorted the technical hitch out. they played a fantastic set. it was recorded for the BBC 'in concert ' series. i have the entire concert on CD. so sad to hear of Michael Beens passing.
