The Call of Cthulhu by H P Lovecraft is the foundation story, the seminal myth of the Cthulhu Cult. This recorded was supported by Gavin Critchley who has kindly let me put it up on the podcast. Of course this is my reading so Gavin and I wondered what you would make of my pronunciation of the Cthulhu chant: ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
I had been listening to a bit of Heilung... and some Tibetan monks. Make of it what you will.
Hope you enjoy.

High time this eternal classic was recorded by the Master. No over-acting, timing exquisite, and the different voices just perfect. Wonderful indeed. Thanks!!

Thank you, Gavin. Very, very brave, Tony, to not just attempt, but absolutely ace the pronunciations and intonation of the elder language, especially as Lovecraft stated that it was a language that was not intended for human throats. The use of vibrato was inspired! I reveled in Lovecraft as a teenager, but his excesses are over the line for me now. I am very glad that Gavin commissioned this piece, though, as there should be a classic reading of H.P.'s out there for people to hear.

LOVE this whole CLASSIC GHOST stories thing and Tony Walker narrations...AND especially Lovecraft this time!a I usually try to be fair and listen to the commercials (aka "ads"), but this time at about 17 mins in there have been 12-ish mins of ads:: One was about 7 mins long another over 3 mins, plus several others that all have added up to the 12 approx mins. Plus the volume is so much louder on these ads than the main narration. Hard to rest and relax to a good creepy tale under these conditions. I don't really want to go to an ad-free mode as I think it only fair to give the ads a listen as part of the channel's revenue. Maybe this is a fluke. Hope it doesn't become a common occurrence though. Will try listen to some of your other stories (though HPL is a favorite). I appreciate the work and integrity that goes into these presentations. Not sure how this one somehow wound up with so many (and long) ads.

@@ClassicGhost I don't feel at all good about making such a report. Your work has been HUGELY appreciated here as I can no longer read very easily in a condition that is worsening even after treatments. But, not about me, but about how much your hard work means to a lot of people. I do try to listen to the ads rather than block then entirely, as I think that is just fair. This particular time, though, was unusual. re the very long and repeated breaks. I can imagine what it feels like to get complaints after all of your great efforts. When I am able in the next year I will see if I can (pardon the expression/ha) provided direct contributions rather than dealing with ads. Again, to note, this was a real exception, and I will continue to tell people about your narrative presentations. But I DO have a question. NOT knowing anything about how volume is maintaind and managed, might podcasters have the option of laying down their recordings at the higher end of volumes allowed so that ad have less chance of, er, "exploding" so loudly in the middle of quiet, moody vocal delivery? Meaning, the listener sets their volume for listening without concern that some ad will come on many times louder than the general delivery? I''m not sure if I am being clear, and, again, don't know what/who has any say r e: the overall modulation if YT presentations. (I think the FCC does that in the US for over-the-air broadcast,s but I don't anything about that re on-line versions of same. Thankk you so much again for your tremendous ongoing work!---or really I should say "art"!

but I think the ads are deliberately louder. When I set the ads, I allow one sometimes two at the beginning one in the middle row and one the end which no one actually listens to so that should be a maximum of four but really only three that you have to put up with.

Hi Tony, I love Heilung and Tibetan monks chanting- should be very interesting - I tried to read/pronounce the words quoted- talk about a mouth full of marbles a la Prof. Henry Higgins as he attempts to "fix" Eliza Doolittle's marvelous Cockney! You'll do it. Are you new to Heilung? I'd love to see them in concert- I admit to having to be in a certain mindset to listen for a lengthy period- Namaste ( The Guilty One)
@ClassicGhost
@ClassicGhost 2 жыл бұрын
I have tried to see Heilung about 3 times over the past years. There was one in York in 2019 at a Viking festival that was cancelled, then we booked for London and that was cancelled and then there was one in Manchester but I don't think that happened. I lost track of the date. But I'd love to see them. Yes. I agree. The Chtulhu language was fun. I figure it has a lot of laryngeals like Tokoharian (sp)

@@ClassicGhost Hi Tony, Guilty One here, competition is life right? But I feel awful about listening to that channel more of late- I imagine you know each other, I hope you don't laugh about getting "this ridiculously long blather about her woes and opinions and...WHAT IS TOKOHARIAN- you have me intrigued- is it a real language or a fantasy one- first off I thought of Tolkien but he didn't create a "hobbit" middle-earth language did he? And Lovecraft- I have forgotten my Cthulu sp probably- I used to love fantasy worlds - Ursula Le Guinn - that name popped up- fill me in- I have books by her and bought one last year- essays? Can't remember. I still have Freud's The Uncanny, Murder, Mourning and The Paranormal? Ghosts? and two books by James Merrill, and two by Mark Fisher- I refuse to give Amazon, those robbers with arbitrary postal rates! Grrrr capitalism, grrrr communism, grrrrr. If I had the money I used to spend, without thinking, buy now- 500.00 some months, when I got high, if I wasn't thoughtful now, I COULD BE A PATRON OF YOU AND MR. SOUND EFFECTS AND 1 MUSICIAN, SEAN ROWE- I really admire the work creative people put into their craft- boy that sounds so dumb- grrr- this annoying gadget insists on replacing words, grr becomes Gareth etc- poor Lenny Bruce. I am going. I really am sincere, I feel like a fink- don't be mad at me- I used to only listen to The Victorian "cat" Simon Standhope? Until I'd listened to every tale- ! His voice! Talk about a time travel experience but then I discovered! A colony! I've learned so much from your talks and when you interview an author- I'm over the moon! Are you working on any stories- I love "originals" - there's something so personal, I can't express what I feel- the stories aren't about one, but there's a quality, a sensation that accompanies a work written after you've written a living being! ...You know what I mean- thankfully Oscar Wilde can't take a shot at me- I must finish Dorian G- what a project! The entire novella. Did Oscar write any ghost stories? I have his fairytale in my dusty attic- I love them- such a different side of a complicated man- Namaste from Plastic Hippie- some "idiot" comment not about me but a blather on narcissist behavior and those who claim pseudo spiritual enlightenment- I don't take chronic self portraits all day, every day, wallpaper my house, in ME, MYSELF AND I- !!!
