Ut oh, Pastor J you are stirring up something. This passage of scripture is loaded. I will just touched this one point, you asked where was the Lord when He spoke to Gideon, after the angel of the Lord departed. Hallelujah! The Voice... The Voice of the Lord ...we need to know His Voice... Hallelujah!!! As a matter of fact, the Lord said, His sheep know His Voice...That Gideon prepared an meal (well, when I get started...) Gideon brought an offering, a gift to the Lord and He ...our awesome God waited to receive the gift. Hallelujah! I can imagine how Gideon went about preparing...he selected a kid, tender, sweet meat and the au jus... that is some good eating (this is my imagination, I have not had goat). In His Presence...Hallelujah! is fullness of joy. You know....I am going to stop. Blessings... working on the lesson now. Oh, please rest...we want you well in Jesus name. Amen!

So good to hear from you. I enjoyed the lesson. You threw out quite s bit of gold nugguts. And so.e meat to chew on for a while. I fact I may have to use a blender. I cannot swallow whole but I know it's good for me. I believe the angel was a preincarnate Christ. This Angel didn't give a message he spoke a word . And we know that in the beginning was the word the word was with God and the Word was God . Gideon did not realize the deity but understood him to be one who was to be respected. I think of the scripture that says to be careful how we entertain strangers because they could be angels unaware. I believe there was something so special about the angel that Gideon knew as I said he was to be respected but needed to have more proof or he needed to be assured that this person was from God. So he put God to a test. Actually he was putting a man to a test and found out that it was the true and living God. It really amazes me that this preincarnate Christ would continue to stay under that tree until Gideon came back with as you said not an offering but a gift or a meal. Gideon heard the word and it touched him enough 2 try the spirit and see whether it be of God. So you brought his gift and Christ accepted it as a sacrifice a Living Sacrifice. And the power of who Christ is accepted the gift and honored it like a sacrifice. He sent down fire and totally consumed it. Gideon had no choice but to know he was in the presence of God. I believe the angel could disappear because there was no longer needed a physical manifestation of God because he had proof and who he was. So just speaking from wherever he was looking from heaven or wherever Gideon new that it was the Lord that had visited him and spoke a word of instruction to him. That's why he could build an altar. Not a fake altar that his father was used to having erected but he was going to make an altar to the one true and living God.

In the NLT version of verse 14 it says "Then the LORD (I AM THAT I AM) turned to him and said". I believe he was speaking to GOD.
