Sorry I disagree about shortening the Man's right side - I'd prefer to stretch the left side more otherwise there'd be a collapsed body. Also, in an upswing where the body inclines backwards, isn't this part of natural body movement?

20:00, The lady's right hip is forward and up to connect to her right wrist for supporting the man's lead with his right side and right arm only.

Asis Khadjeh Nouri thanks nice lecture What is a "Jazz Roll" as in the article below ? I do realize Victor was referring to the "Jazz Roll" of 1918, over 100 years ago. Modern Ballroom Dancing Victor Silvester Page 33 Towards the end of 1917 'Jazz Music' was first heard, then described as the 'delirium tremens of syncopation ... an attempt to reproduce the marvelous syncopation of the African jungle'. In this country for quite a long time the term Jazz was thought to be the name of a new dance or a new routine of steps. Bands which in place of the 'strings' of pre-war days featured banjos, saxophones, and trap drummers became known as Jazz Bands, and the general public, who forgot that the old Quadrille Band played music other than Quadrilles, ran away with the idea that these orchestras 'jazzed' every tune. Towards September 1918 'dips' and twinkles began to go out of fashion, and the Foxtrot showed a strong tendency to develop into a really smooth dance. With the coming of Jazz music also arrived a new step which was destined to exercise an enormous influence on the Foxtrot: it was originally known as the Jazz Roll, and it was, undoubtedly, the forerunner of the Three-Step. The basis of this movement, which, at that time, was introduced as frequently into the Rag as into the Foxtrot, was a series of three steps occupying four counts of the music. These steps could be taken both forwards and backwards, and also, when forwards, with a slight crossing of the feet, thus producing in a modified form the 'Dutch Roll' of skaters

but there are no practical exercises shown......

They are basic steps, doing the routine as he describes is the practical exercise. Once you can do that you can do similar in other steps.

why is everyone in black?
@StudioMargalima5 жыл бұрын
That is most used colour in the broad dance world in general, and specific in the dance sport world too. It's chique, and the same time dramatic. And of course optically makes you thinner.
@mavsworld17334 жыл бұрын
It makes you into a silhouette so seeing body lines is easier.

Sometimes the perfect way to describe something is by using the word "bullshit." We're adults, we can take it.
