Thanks for the tips on downloading Google maps. Clean windshields are so important - we drove in to Yellowstone with a dirty windshield. Stopped and made a hideous effort to clean and still regretted our lack of planning. I met someone somewhere who met you - he liked you and that's all I got!

There is so much to do here in our Rockies. Jasper is an amazing town that still has the rustic feel to it. Lots of hiking to do - there is a tramway to near the top of the Whistlers mountain complete with a small restaurant and you can hike right to the summit depending on the weather. Maligne Canyon as well is another great stop for a hike as well. Athabasca falls are pretty magnificent if you like water falls and are a great short stop along the parkway. Looking forward to next week - hopefully there will be a snowcoach ride at the Icefields (I live 4 hours from Jasper and I've never done that yet).

Do you use Google maps for navigation? Or do you also use an RV navigation? I tend to find the routes on google maps for an rv are not always great for the fifth wheel (small roads and It doesn't give me clearances. ) I like to compare the Google maps route with RV trip planner and Google earth the night before to make sure the rv is good on the road

Fall freeze, unhooking the evening before departing is a smart move. We once got caught by an early snowfall in WY, forgot to turn off and disconnect the campground water, wasted a few hours the next morning defrosting the water line so we could coil it up and go. Lucky it didn't burst. Speaking of water, 48 wasteful plastic bottles ? Ever heard of Brita ?

A few years ago when I was 21 I left Anchorage to Pittsburgh PA in Jan by myself, no plan no Clue. I guess I just “Let er rip”. I had to be back to start school. So I drove 5,000 miles in 10 days. I was told the AlCAN was 1,000 miles of dirt road, but since it was winter it was snow covered, 1 day it ended with 6-8 inches of snow on the road. Sever memorable events, like I drove off the road into 3 feet of snow in the middle of no ware. I stopped in White Horse for the night. The guys at the counter said it got up to 40 yesterday. I’m thinking “NO WAY”. Yes the high was -40. Being winter it was dark most of the time so I didn’t see much. I enjoy your videos. I bought a small camper last summer, but that’s another story of how my dog and camped 2 days in the parking lot of a Chevy dealership near State College. Not a HAPPY VALLEY!! Lost ED

Those bull elk are BIG critters and they're really impressive when viewed from inside a vehicle. During rutting season they're downright scary when you encounter one when you're on a bicycle. It's one of those times when "sharing the road" doesn't apply -- you either wait until they've moved on or find another route.

It reminded me of a Wyoming trip we did one year in late June. As we were leaving Yellowstone National Park there were snow flurries. A few days later we were home sitting in 90 degee weather. When I saw those big Elks my first thought was what a beautiful majestic animal and my second thought was man I could fill both my freezers up with a ton of good nutritional meat high in vitamins, minerals, protein and low in fats and cholesterol....lol. Sorry, that was the hunter in me coming out. There are probably hunters from all over the world coming to the Canadian Rockies to hunt Elk. Especially during the peak of the rut.

I thought that was you at the Safeway in Hinton.... you think that water at the falls was pretty, you should see Moraine lake near Lake Louise.... too bad you passed this way this time of year because lots of the greatest places to see are closed for the winter like Moraine lake, Johnson's Canyon, and Lake Minawonka where there are boat tours down the lake... also as you get closer to Calgary there is the Kananaskis lakes where if you watched the movie RV, a good portion of it was filmed there ( the boat ramp on the upper lake is where Robyn Williams sunk the motorhome)... hope you come back sometime in the summer and enjoy all that these parks have to offer!!!!

You traveled through one of my favorite places in the world. Funny story… I once went tent camping in Jasper, early October. I was awoken one morning by the sounds of a male calling to his heard… He literally was right on top of my small two person tent. I was frozen for the better part of an hour waiting for he and his heard of doe’s to move through my camp site. They are a majestic and amazing species. Yukon is remote. Maybe even desolate. Jasper, however, is wild enough to be respected, but it’s barely 4 hours drive from 2 major cities. It is not remote. We drove the Icefields about 6 weeks before you. Pouring rain, almost snow at Sunwapta Pass, so no views. And when the rain lifted we had thick smoke. You had better timing. So glad you enjoyed it.
@Fromthemountainmeadow Жыл бұрын
So fun. Hinton has the best RV parks that don't cost a fortune. The water is that blue due to the glacier run off. Also the elk are not the only large deer like animal you need to worry about. At the time you came through the mountain rams and moose are also doing the same. We have yet to stay in Banff or the Kananaskis area. But super glad you got to see Pocahontas Mountain as you drove by.
