Have to agree with the liner I never attach mine, as it is very hard to get in when it is attached, I love my bag and would never go with out it, but man it is a pain to pack up. I used mine when I was in the Arctic and was very warm...and Thanks for the mention Bro...Yes we got the snow for sure...got some rain this morning thank god so it is starting to melt, now everyone is worried about flooding...lol...never ends...The bags are great for years of use, my inner bag is from Oct. 1969...lol and still going strong....I do need to get a new bivy bag..... Very good info video for those that are interested in a sleep system that does have it's faults but will keep you warm...and yes I'm 6 foot 2 and 265 lbs and fight like crazy to get in it but once in, I'm cozy warm....lol....atb...Peter

FSBushcraft Maybe you should consider the MSS Bivy to have more space. This bag I have signed from the Military one day I'll have to turn it in but my civilian one will take over. I'll have a video on that one too.

So I’m actually a service member in the army. The liner is not fleece. Actually we no longer use the liner as we have a thermal blanket. The thermal blanket has zippers and is similar to the American poncho liner. I recommend when you pack it away do not store it in the bivy bag. Stuff it into the valice. Once it’s stuffed put the bivy bag on top. I honestly don’t even use the hood. I just wear a toque. The sleeping bags I only tie the inner and outer together at the bottom if I tie it at all. Lastly if you use that air mattress then slide it inside the bivy bag so that it doesn’t move around as much. Helps if your a person that moves around in your sleep.

Reservist like me and cadets don't get newer stuff only the old , abused one. Had to return my sleeping kit to help kit the rest of the FAC. We will most likely never get another issued sleeping bag. Just the temporary signed one with cadets QM.

Wow, that's even bigger than the MSS. But I think that is what you'll need at -23 C. Meanwhile they have waterproofed down feather in some new backpacks, like an outdoors-employee told me. Great info Lt! Cheers, Marc

I have the bivy and the outer bag only and i have slept to about -5c comfortably. After that you need more. I hope to get the complete system one day, altho i have a few bags that work thru temps in the -20cs. The hood i can get for like 10 bucks and i might pick one up. I find it tight as well and i wonder how the army can sleep in these . If someone came into camp they could cook a meal and eat before you got out of the bag lol.Great system and i also use the thermorest, mine leaks over night . Thanks for the video, i loved hearing about it all.

Kullcraven Bushcraft If you want a hood I might have a spare kicking around, I'll check and let you know. I do, it is dated 1967 and made by Woods, back when Woods gear was good!! If you are interested let me know.

TurtleWolf Pack hey man that is kind of ya. I can get the hood at my local surplus, that goes over your shoulders and hed to keep you warm for like 10 bucks. Thanks for the offer man but it would cost you more in shipping so save your money but the thought is what counts and is appreciated.

Kullcraven Bushcraft yup, it's the same hood. The one I plan on using was made in the late 1990's, there is seriously no difference between that one and the Woods one except maker! I was surprised when I looked at the tag and it said 1967.

The ties on the bottom are to tie the liner to the inner and the inner to the outer. It's the way they are put together by turning the extranal layers inside out and tying them.

Man I miss the old Valise they came in. The new compression sacks that they issue now make it way smaller, but it’s such a pain in the ass to pack it in there now, especially when you get a “pull pole” at 2am.

Your talking about the curtain or the prefab wall cover cause the curtain have been up since 15 year I think. and the prefab wood wall since the 1970's

I went on a cadet ftx and we had to sleep with this in my advice you don’t need the air mattress , the liner and sometimes the bibby bag ( the gortex bag that you put the sleeping bag in to keep dry and other stuff ) I only sleep with the outer the inner a air mattress that didn’t inflate 😂 and the bibby bag it sure does keep you warm (probably because I was sleeping in a 5 man arctic tent with 3 other people ) and you don’t need to zip it up or tie all the strings
@LtSurvival
@LtSurvival 4 жыл бұрын
yes you can use those untied but only for short term since we do FTX that last 1 or 2 nights it's not a problem most of the time. However I will recommend that you always use a liner for salubrity even though they are cleaned the liner is much safer then the down to be totally cleaned and carry no nasties in it. Remember cadets stuff is sent out often and clean as much the quality of those sleeping might go down a lot more then the one we usually get personally issued strait from QM when we could. Air mattress are mostly defective if you get the green the replacement grey from Thermarest are way better. but they are thin. lucky for you to have access to the Bivy Bag not many retain them after the CAF recall all of the sleep system to supply the reg forces with it.
@joeydepalmer4457

you use the liner to help keep the sleeping bag clean. you use the BIVY bag (not bibby bag) to also help keep the sleeping bag cleaner, but also mainly help keep the bag dry. it also is used instead of a tent. air mattress is a personal choice but helps give a better sleep

The complet artic sleeping system from the ground up: Ground sheet; Black Betty (air mattress); BIVY bag; Outer sleeping bag; Inner sleeping bag; Sleeping bag liner, Sleeping bag hood; and Sleeping bag booties. Sleeping bag system goes into the storage bag with a folding wash basin (on end where hole is) and either thermal underwear or sweat suit. than this goes onto the toboggan or carried if need be. a stripped down version of this between 2 persons is carried if needed for winter or stripped down version for 1 person for summer is carried on the rucksack
@LtSurvival
@LtSurvival 3 жыл бұрын
The old system. Since then wash basin and black betty have been retired. The air mattress has been replaced by a self inflating mattress. As for sleeping booties never was issued any or seen a pair. As for the rest we used to carry it that way for Shure.

@@LtSurvival wow old system. things have changed alot since covid started. we have turfed the new mattresses and kept the black bettys because they are a better product. and the wash basin well not be turfed because they are very functional and help cover the hole in the stuff bag. old system? please! its called current for now. you must be one of thoughs types who tell the cadets to tie their boots with reef knots

Yup, Liner always stayed at home........To Get in, Bivy is halfway down the full sleeping bag that is layed out and unzipped. Get in the sleeping bag with zipper facing upwards. Now your sitting up pull bivy to shoulders, lay down and pull and zip sleeping bag....Good luck if you need to piss before wakey wakey

How much pound the gore tex weight? When I brought mine 17 years ago they were not coming with bivy, do you know a good place where I can find one, thanks.
@LtSurvival
@LtSurvival 8 жыл бұрын
Not shure between 1/2 to 1 pound I think. It is just a bag, then you add the weight of the 3 part sleeping bag total 5 to 8 pound (did not weighted the bag yet, no scale at home)
@joeydepalmer4457
@joeydepalmer4457 3 жыл бұрын
you put the sleeping bag inside the BIVY bag and than place the BIVY bag ONTOP of the air mattress. you do not put the mattress inside the BIVY bag
