Absolutely great show! I was glued to every word and am going to check out the article by Liam McGuire that Mitch recommended. Now I will be able to talk intelligently to my Leafs friends who need to come up with a reason why their team hasn’t won in over 57 years!

I really enjoyed this, so thank you! Crazy fan reactions this year is why I've stayed away from social media. I was lucky enough to watch their success starting from the 70s, but as you said, we wouldn't be able to afford that team in today's cap era. I like the core, and the management team, and we have exciting pieces that will be joining the team in the next few years. I believe that Dach will be effective, given more games under his belt, and I'm looking forward to watching Laine, and seeing what he can do, but again, he'll also need time.

Kovecevic, Monahan, and Allen should have been kept as a stabilizing teaching core. Primeau, Savard, Struble and Prezetta should have been moved. MSL is a one man band re-coaching, individuated, proud, and stubborn, if he can’t work with a serious experienced D systems coach, then he should be let go. Any business is built on strong collaboration.

The average rebuild takes 4 to 8 years! We need more experience behind the bench for sure.
@BeginsthemanАй бұрын
We should have had more experience behind the bench since the rebuild began. When Luke Richardson left, one major mistake that was made was to sign no one with proper experience.

I'm a nobody, but this is how I see it. The president, manager, and coach set up trades for draft picks for the 2025 draft. They have seven picks in the first three rounds, why on Gods green earth would they want to seat themselves in the last 10 to 15 teams to pick when they can develop, assess, set their tone and strategy for the end game by "tanking"? I was at the Buffalo game on Nov. 11th, it was pretty much a game of shinny hockey, I could tell by the way certain shifts were played that they were out there to score. Each time they scored I called it. They looked driven, then relaxed. Let's not forget that they are higher than the league average for the PK and PP, which to me is awesome. The training is working, bag skates are working. They rocked the first two periods of the Minnesota game with a pace I have not seen so far this year. Everyone has to chill and let MSL find his coaching style, the same way the players need to hone their roles with the team. I am savouring this for when their ready to compete for cups. GHG

FICKLE?? How was it not bloody obvious to everyone right from day one that Marty is not any kind of coach? YOU GUYS INCLUDED!! Finally, this season, I'm not getting trolled everytime I say that the Habs need a real coach.
@BuellersBackАй бұрын
I think they need to trade Struble and a second, for a solid stabilizing defensive veteran. He’s ceiling is just not very high, and defensive core need more leadership.

Truth be told: the Boston Bruins have not really been on any genuine form of rebuild since they traded Raymond Bourque to Colorado (how long has it been?). And yet they found multiple ways to become and then to stay mostly competitive since. Why? There are two reasons: 1) the higher echelons there have always chosen to be ambitious starting at the very top, and 2) they will never hesitate in cutting loose and then replace any cog that does not work. Why do they do that? It's because they know the Boston market is not keen on any form of mediocrity whatsoever. The fact that they have not gone into full rebuilds is not the reason why they have choked so often in the playoffs for 15 years; that is their 100-year history as a whole. I only wish the Habs followed that Bruins template in order to give the fans something to enjoy most of the time. It's easier to work from there. I'm a true Habs fan and I hate the Bruins in games, but I can respect how they do things in order to maintain an identity.

No they're not! They're a weak team and have been for decades. And there's no reason to think that will change.

Bring Michel Therrien to help Marty, Michel is a genius to prepare his team in training camp and a genius in feeling the bench and mixing the lines to make them effective. He was recently assistant coach with Alain Vigneault and is a true Habs lover.
@petermelville5524Ай бұрын
Habs are spoiled living on the past, guaranteed fan base, gate & merch revenue, are in status-quo but focusing on having some entertaining players. The hype on Caufield and Hutson is evidence of this. Hutson can’t play disciplined D, and like Caufield is a bit too small and slow for leading the team in playoff amped-up hockey.

Suzuki, Caulfield and Slafkovsky is not even close to a good #1 line. Its not a top 20 line in the league. Suzuki is ideally a very good #2 centreman.

The Habs have been rebuilding for more than 30 years! Montreal is one of the richest franchise in the NHL but it doesn't show on the ice.
@robrick9361Ай бұрын
Do you know what a rebuild is? Cause if you did then you'd know the Habs have never actually tried one until now. Every year they tried to make the playoffs, only to lose and end up with a bottom pick.
@cecaju9516Ай бұрын
The Habs haven’t done a rebuild since the 1950’s.
@galkanftwАй бұрын
He says he saw a sign of progression but instead of saying what that is he quickly goes into the "realistic"mind set that the Habs were not going to make the playoffs. Well since he doesn't seem to properly understand th game I will tell him NO there has not been ANY progression in the team ZERO they p;lay the same way they did from year 1 or WORSE becuase NOW none of the defense are shooting the puck. The defensive structure is a really sad cover nobody system they play exactly like they are killing a penalty making themselves look shorthanded.Offensively they are still the same perimeter team with Gally being on the only one consistently gets the puck and his body to the net.Caufiel;d still just stands there in that exact same spot doesn't move just waits for everyone else to do all the work. The middle zone is as it always been a FREE pass for the opposing team to just waltz through uncontested."Decision" making is AWFUL the odd shift they make good decision but overall in EVERY game too many brutally bad decisions. Heads up hockey and reading the ice BEFORE they get the puck is almost non existent a few times a game does not make a game.
