Thanks for the update nice to see other breeders who take the time to make a KZbin channel and share their tips and tricks, when I started my channel some 10 years ago now it was because breeding canaries was like a secret society with on information on the internet. So well done and keep up the good work. Glyn.

Thank you! :) Always something to learn in your episodes! Also, I appreciate your 'this is birdkeeping.... let's enjoy our birds' comments! In the midst of everyone who seems quick to say: oh, that's not the way to do things'.... your advice to remember we should enjoy the birds we keep is needed! :)

Darren Ashpole thanks for the kind words. I use Tierwhol for the base of the cages.

When they're ready they'll be ready - if they don't fight then i'd leave them together

If they’re not bickering, and you intend to run theM as pairs then you should be fine. I haven’t trimmed mine yet so won’t put them together for another few weeks yet

Mat, where do you put all the youngsters?
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
It's a great question Maarten, what you can't see from the show is that there are 16 empty cages and 3 big flight cages at the the bottom of the cage block so the first round go in there. The second round are usually ready to come away when the adult birds are finished breeding, so invariably i'll make the breeding cages in to flight cages and put the young in them.

Hi like your videos very informative and helpful you have a great setup and some lovely birds there's only one problem the music in the background is fine but it's too loud with birds singing and music it's hard to hear you please keep up the good work and hope you do video on breeding siberian goldfinches Mike
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Mike, it was very noisy in the room but I’ll have another look at the sound balance on the next episode. I’ll be following the Siberian’s throughout the breeding season but a couple of people have asked so I’ll schedule an extended feature of them

@@TheCanaryRoom hope u have good breeding season but very bad weather here at moment now storms have stopped for a while cold weather on the way looking forward to video on finches

Have a hen which seems to have a hart leg some how. How long should I let her continue to stand on one leg before trying something. Please help
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
Is she a young hen? could be scaly feet which is essentially a mite infection. You can find treatments on-line for it and then pop some vaseline on it after the treatment
@mauricebooker15194 жыл бұрын
Ok. Sounds like a plan. Will look into treatment right away. Thought that she was fighting with one of the makes and had her leg damaged. Great news

She is about one yrs old going on two.

is it useful to combine green with blue and what can we expect than mvg
@pantoneconsultancyltd99024 жыл бұрын
B S I don’t generally breed blue to blue so blues go with greens and whites with clears as a basic rule. You’ll get a mixed bag of colours, allieds (whites and blues and variegated) greens and variegated

Hello there! What’s the best way to get ahold of you for questions?? Is it possible for any canary breed to become somewhat tame? Or is there a particular breed of canary more prone to being trained or tamed?
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
Either through here or on the Facebook page via messenger. In my experience some of the canary variety's I have kept (reds, Spanish razza) are always a little flighty but I see no reason, with contact from a very early age whilst you can't tame any variety. I've seen fifes happily perch on a finger before now. best of luck

We are new canary “ parents “ our first hen is on her nest, 3 eggs so far. What kind of food do you recommend for the babies? And, where do we find it?
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
I use a dry egg food mix moistened with vegetables- there’s a how to video on this channel - best egg food for canaries. You can get the dry mix (cede, orlux etc) on-line in the U.K. it costs anywhere between £3-£5 per kilo. Good luck!!

@justeen17724 жыл бұрын
Ok so feed plenty of eggfood My eggfood is bought and i boil an egg and toss it in there too.Sometimes ill shred a carrot aswell i rearly give carrots. I feed also millet to them to give them a bit of viraity and once every two weeks il give brocolie aswell. And look at your birds if they fight you might have to change the female or the male and put them with other ones.

Can you help me ? My hen is sitting on eggs and shes molting what will happen , should i worry ?
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
Keep an eye on her, her breeding instincts should override all else. If she’s in a full moult chances are she will at some stage abandon the nest. Do you have any other hens you could put the eggs under?

I am pleased to tell you the red hooded siskin is one of the very few birds that when mule bred or hybridized with the canary, the F1 youngsters are indeed fertile to breed back to a canary,.
