Good information on a lens that I’ve recently purchased and am waiting to be delivered.😊

I recently picked this up at a drug store clearance where they were selling the two lens kit of the 50mm 1.8 and this lens for $199CDN which is $150 USD. It’s like buying a nifty fifty and getting this for free. I tested it out just around the house and yard on a crop body in comparison to the 17-40 F4L on a full frame body and I must say they trade blows very well! Given the extremely small and light size and IS, I’d be happy to adapt this to an R10 and use it while out and about. It’s a fine lens.

I use this lens a lot on a Canon APS-C camera. A key factor knowing is how it has field curvature -- the center focuses farther than the corners. With such a super wide angle (tons of depth of field), there is lots of wiggle room -- and to push the corner focus farther back, I tend to set my focus ~50% farther out.

Thanks for that top tip. I had issues when doing group photos with sharpness on some people and couldn’t figure out the reason until now. When I used it for landscapes I had no issues.

I recently bought this lens because I wanted a super wide angle lens for street photos. I bought it used since I knew it wasn't going to be a lens I would use very often, and the Sigma came in at $699.99 US whereas the Canon EF-S 10-18 was $239.99 used making it a very affordable option. It just arrived a day ago so I haven't had much time to take it out yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get from it in the days to come.

Do you like it?
@Hodenkat Жыл бұрын
@@Twobarpsi It gets the shots I want, but not nearly as crisp and sharp as I would like. In the end I would say a better landscape lens is going to cost much more, so you basically get what you pay for..

First of all thank you for the great video, I would like to know which lens is better for landscape photography is it 10-18 or sigma 8-16mm. Thanks again

Great video and comparison... but (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 has IS.

CA is worse on the Canon 10-22mm USM !! and much reduced on the Canon 10-18mm. Whilst not weatherproofed, its not as bad as you say. I photograph all round Malaysia(in rain) and Thailand (where I live) and it survives very well thank you. Its got excellent sharpness edge to edge(better than the 10-22mm) and gives a beautiful colour rendition when paired with Canon APSC cameras DSLR or Mirrorless( I have both), in fact I am purchasing another one to put with my M5. Sigma on other hand will not work with my M5, and I suspect with more modern Canon R series to a point. So really telling people to go Sigma, is a waste of good money, with little difference in IQ. Try to be more balanced in your views in future. And "You guys" and "guys" should also be dropped. "I say" 1:38

I tried to figure out what you are saying, but you keep mentioning the 10-22 and not the 10-18.. so what are you comparing to what? what is better then what? Because you just name one lens... the 10-22.. You saying the 10-22 is better, or worse?..
@Polum2 Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes , apologies, i have now edited it correctly. The 10-18mm stm is better than the 10-22mm in that there is less CA and in my experience sharper edge to edge than the 10-22mm. But there's not a lot in it!

i just checked online and it looks like the sigma 10-20mm f3.5 for canon has been discontinued?!

(i’m researching ultra wide angle lenses, trying to decide which to get, and thought i’d look up the others you mentioned in this video)
@OverlandingNL Жыл бұрын
Discontinued or never existed at all.. Because if I try to search for it at second hand shops I find only the Nikon version had f3.5 but all Canon hits I get are always f4+

Hello, I'm trying to start a video podcast using 4 cannon 80D cameras. I need a recommendation for two camera lenses that are no more than 300 dollars and has auto focus, if such a thing exists. The first lens will only be used to cover all 3 subjects while they speak so this should be a wide angle lens. And the other 3 lenses will be used as up close shots to really dial into that particular talent while they are speaking. I don't care about the construction quality ie, "plastic vs metal" as long as the lenses are capable of capturing the maximum video quality allowed by the cannon 80D. I hope this all makes sense as my knowledge of cameras is extremely limited. Any help will be appreciated! Thank you!

Wide view of talent/cast Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 STM (will need good lighting for this one) It’s a better lens than what he describes. Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 ART (fast lens at f/1.8 so good in less light. Price point is higher but it’s sharp glass) Closer shot Sigma 17-55mm OS f/2.8 (Good with lesser light but a little noisy with its autofocus. You’ll need good sound on your talent/cast - boom mic or lapel mics) Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 USM (Faster lens at f/2.8) Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Prime - Thrifty fifty. You’ll need to move your camera closer or further to get the affect you need as this isn’t an adjustable focal range but it’s cheap & sharp & fast.

You say you can tell the lens is quite small because it uses 67mm filters? Ha! The 70-200F4 uses 67mm filters!
