I have found codes for all of my Ford-radios on this website. All you need is the serial number of your radio. (you have to register first though): www.radio-code.lt

Don't toss out that one where the tape player switched sides. Some players do not work with normal tape adaptors. The reason is they drive one tape "wheel" and sense if the other is turning. If it does not turn, it assumes the tape is broken and stops. It might then try and do the same for the other size as well. Some tape adaptors actually have a belt that connects both tape "wheels" together to allow it to play in such a tape player. A easy test is to put in a normal tape of course and see that it plays. Hope this helps!

I made a similar test rig to this many years ago (early to mid 90's when I was going to car boot sales regularly and buying car stereos and CB radios. Mine was basically a speaker and a sealed lead acid battery with loads of croc clips and an antenna built into a enclosure and lugged around in a rucksack, which served a purpose. This is a huge improvement and much better thought out then my rig, I like it.

Great test box. I would add 2 more batteries to raise the voltage a bit to something closer to 13.8V

This is quite an interesting idea. My dad recently paid quite a bit of money for a stock British Leyland radio for his Triumph. Seeing those old ford radios took me back. I actually have an old Ford radio i plan on making into a radio for my workshop.

Nice Project! Many car radios also have power outlets for external devices like the antenna or an external amp. 2 small 12v lamps or LEDs to check these would also be really convinient. And maybe an potentiometer in line with the backlight input?

Very nice. Could have used it in the 1980s when three $400 Blaupunkt stereos got viciously ripped out of my '84 VW Rabbit -- don't laugh, it was my first new car and I loved it. Finally built a retracting mechanism out of old printer parts to automatically hide the radio in the dash and that worked a treat. Re: your fixture, great build, but the tiny speaker on top looks exposed. I'm sure you have loads of speakers to replace it if it ever gets poked, but if you should ever feel the need to protect it, you can make good looking speaker (and fan) grilles out of the black plastic mesh used to plant seedlings. Rigid but easily cut, and dirt cheap. A pack of five A4 sized sheets cost about 3 bucks at my local nursery.

YES! Where did you get the box? I’m wanting to make a home stereo, for playing cds, Bluetooth, and usb with my old car headunit. Plan to use a computer power supply to plug into the wall and power the unit and speakers. Don’t plan for the internal speaker, or amp gauge. I’ll put the unit in the box with another fan in it too. This box is good with limited tools, my dremel should work. A metal enclosure would be nice but more work. A small all in one receiver and player! Binding posts and all! Been looking for option and this works!

Not sure why switching speakers would do the radio any harm - disconnecting would mean infinite impedance presented to the power amp and that's fine for transistor-based amps.

I would suggest changing the monitor speaker switch to double throw, otherwise if you have speakers connected, and monitor turned on the amp will be seeing a 2ohm load, not good for it.

Just a tip if charging your 10x AA LiFe batteries via your banana plugs to prevent connecting the 4mm banana plugs power i/p, to the wrong polarity on the supply add a bridge rectifier. .:. almost idiot proof.

nice work, very handy. The power switch would be better before the caps as they will drain the batteries. you could use a double pole switch to turn off on both sides of the caps, so it is still instant off. You can get the codes of the internet if you have the serial number, usually it's a txt service that charges you 1-2 euros for the txt

Hi, this was very interesting - especially your point about the ground wires. I had an Audi A3 which I no longer have but now have an A4 - both have the switched rear amp which needs the remote 5volt to switch on and power the rear speakers - otherwise they are super quiet. I've had to wire these before and I can't remember of not if I wired the speakers ground into the earth wire of the head unit harness - basically grabbing the nearest earth. Am I right in what you've said that is that the speakers should of been earthed out to different grounds? Very interested to understand this as ultimately last time I rewired the whole car and would rather avoid this this time.

Great idea. Can you make one that speaks English? Maybe the capacitors were German. I was looking for a BMW 2002 radio that I owned about 10 years ago and it was a pain. I think you're on to something here. I'm a huge, huge fan of that era Quattro. Luckily the radio has no sills, doors, frames, or fenders that rust and fall off in the proximity of a hearty sneeze. Thanks for the vid.

Great video. What is the purpose of the capicitors?
@michaeltempsch5282
@michaeltempsch5282 7 жыл бұрын
To provide a low (lower than the internal resistance of the batteries) resistance source of power for brief spikes of higher demand. Without them the batteries might be dragged down from 12V to say 10, but with the caps there to 'help fill in the demand' the voltage should drop significantly less. The same is done (but much larger capacitance) in car audio installations, where placing a big cap close to the amplifier is used to help keep the voltage up on for instance heavy bass hits. www.caraudiohelp.com/car_audio_capacitor_installation.html
