Okay, but why you , audience, continually name Richard Sinclair and do not appreciate Pye Hastings, his voice and his skilful guitar style?
@grahamnunn89985 ай бұрын
@@pasqualemuzzupappa1991 I love Pye but his vocals could be a little pitchy live compared to Richard. Both fantastic instrumentalists too, I never think Caravan get enough credit for pushing themselves into jazz long before most prog bands. Coughtlan was one of those great "melodic" drummers who saw the big picture. Steve Miller is on fire, but was replaced first by Derek Austin (a friend and former colleague!) then the returning Dave Sinclair. Never a dull moment in this band.

The addition of a "The" to the name of the band came courtesy of whoever put this online in 2024. The original broadcast did not contain the mistake. No one has ever called them "The Caravan", a basic check would have been a good idea. The WDR who got them this opportunity back in 1971 are long gone from WDR, and possibly from this planet. Different people - my criticism was denefinitely NOT addressed to them.

Waterloo Lily is up there with For Plump Girls, If I Could Do it , Fairfield Halls and New Sinfonia as superb and unique slices of British progressive rock
@ytnsanwАй бұрын
@@andrewarthurmatthews6685 Bit of an odd comment as Richard Sinclair was the original bass player, even though he left after Waterloo Lily. Also, Steve Miller never recorded with Caravan and was only a transitional member in between David Sinclair's comings and goings. David Sinclair was the keyboard player for the 1st *six* albums including all the ones you mention. My issue with Steve Miller was that he could never replicate the Sinclair sound using just a rather rinky-dink Wurlitzer A200. All the early Caravan albums were heavily predicated around the sound of the Hammond organ and especially Sinclair's technique of using it through a fuzz pedal. That was the 'Caravan sound' - which Steve Miller could never replicate. 'Nine Feet Underground' on a Wurlitzer? - Yecch. But whatever floats your boat, I guess.
