Thanks for this and the T-70 X-Wing review. I didn't think I wanted to start getting into the FA ships as I am a pretty casual player, but I'm now thinking that a Force Awakens base set and one of each on the TIE and X-Wing are in order. Just the fact that Ello Asty is playable is enough for me!

Good thing about buying extra expansions is you save $5 on ship cost vs buying the ships alone plus all the extra counters and even extra rule books you can give to others who may not even want xwings or ties

Unless you're really keen on giving him a Elite talent, Epsilon Ace looks like a clear choice over Omega Squad Pilot. Same points but trades the Elite talent for the pilot 12 ability. Also vs Zeta Squad pilot: 1 point gets you +9 skill; +1 when damaged.

Thanks for the vids cbdungeon, really like them! I have a question: does tie/fo fighters classifies as tie fighters? because I was thinking on using Youngster with them but in the text says "Friendly TIE fighters"... is /fo a type of Tie Fighter or /fo classifies as another ship? Again big thanks!

+Matheus Yeh - I'd have to double check, but I believe that the latest FAQ has ruled that the name of the ship must be exact to work. The upcoming TIE Advanced Prototype, for example, isn't a TIE Advanced and so can't use the x1 title. So Youngster's ability won't benefit the TIE/fos

I knew that his ability was tied to Action Elite Talents, too, but I forgot that important detail when I recorded my audio. That'll teach me to not refresh my memory before doing these videos... Also, you are correct - if he could share any Elite upgrade he would be super broken.

Yeah, Youngster would be WAAAAY overpowered if he could share any EPT. There are not many good options to synergize with Youngster's ability at the moment.I'm betting more action based EPTs are going to be forthcoming though.

Juke on a Defender with the Tie x/7 upgrade would be a pretty great seeing as going spped 3 or higher gives you a free evade token. It'd have to be unique pilot (or maybe the Glaive squadron pilots if they go the same way they do with most non unique but elite pilots) but still pretty sweet on a dogfighting beast like the Tie x/7

+james roper - It's going to be a bit longer :( These huge ship videos are turning out to be a lot more trouble than I anticipated. They have more cards, which means longer narration, which means longer videos, which means bigger files... and my technology is struggling with all of those things at the moment, sadly. I'm better equipped for the shorter videos but I will keep plowing ahead and working on them. I did have the audio all recorded for the Raider video, and then I didn't like how some of it turned out so I deleted it... hopefully they'll be worth the wait.

+The Cardboard Dungeon I like the current format of 10-20 minute videos per ship, it fits into a work break/lunch and the info, speculation and build hints are good to ponder afterwards. If the massive ship content is too much for a single video, cut it into component parts.In terms of the raider, it looks to be a significant work output (for you to get it done in a quality output you are happy with) in both time and content is it worth trying a short series of smaller videos covering specific factors of the ship e.g. the ship, dial, fixed systems and captains in one, the additional/generic/shared card in the other.

+Alex Stoyo - I'll try to get to some of these. But I'll give you a freebie right now: Night Beast w/Twin Ion Engine Mk II. It gives him two more green maneuvers to trigger his ability and costs a total of 16 points. I probably won't do a video on him just because I like to focus on pilots who can carry a lot of upgrades and have some different and interesting combos available. I do like Night Beast a lot, though. For a lowly TIE Fighter pilot, he can get the job done. His ability is great!

I'm a noob to the game and only play casual...so I've NO idea how competitive Omega Leader is in higher levels of the game...but damn! I think he's awesome! Love his ability, love he's got such a high pilot skill level, and love that he's only 21 points! Will be picking one of these up to add to my mom's collection for sure!

Do you know if the FO TIEs can interact with the older TIEs as of they are all just TIEs? An example is Youngster from pre-FO times, he can pass his skill onto friendly TIE Fighters, can he pass on to friendly FO TIEs too? Sorry I am a bit of a noob since Christmas 2015.

+John Keegans - No, the latest ruling is that any time a type of ship is named (as in Youngster's ability), in order to be affected a ship must have that exact name. So Youngster's ability affects TIE Fighters only. On the other hand, the Twin Ion Engine Mk II modification will work with any TIE-class ship, so it's fair game on anything with TIE in it's name. I think a big part of the ship name clarification is due to the upcoming TIE Advanced Prototype. With the TIE Advanced title and Advanced Targeting Computer cards in the game, the designers needed to make the distinction that those cards will only work with the TIE Advanced and not any ship with "TIE Advanced" in it's name. Otherwise, from what we know about the TIE Adv. Prototype it would be completely broken with access to those cards...

I'm gonna comment on juke here. Feel free to agree or disagree. We now have a couple of sources of crackshot, which negates enemy evades, but is one time use, for one squad point. BUT, on the other, we now have juke, which CAN negate an enemy's evade more than once, but is conditional that they do not have focus tokens, for two points. I mean obviously crackshot is more consistent, but juke is worth more in the overall game. I would say that if we weren't in a two-ship, dash doom doughnut meta, then I think juke might be worth more, but currently crackshot might still be better. I will say there's a scum hawk that can steal tokens and he could just make juke super good, but on a hawk, which i don't think can take evades. (check me on that.) idk, juke might see more play, I could be wrong. But the rest of the expansion...yeah the tie/fo is better than the old tie a little bit, but still not as good as phantoms or interceptors, nor as cheap as the original fighter so not as swarmy. great reviews tho.

+The Virtual Troopa - TIE Advanced as long as you've got the Imperial Raider upgrades. Advanced Targeting Computer and the X1 title make Vader as great as he should be!

It says you the player not you the pilot. So if some any of your ships lock it then you get the bonus

+William Morgan - I'm not sure that's how it works. A lot of abilities say "you" meaning that specific ship. Gunner, for example, says "you cannot make any further attacks this round." It would suck if it meant none of your ships could attack. Especially if you used it on high pilot skill Han Solo. But no, Gunner refers only to the ship it's affecting. Abilities that have a more universal effect are generally worded differently.

I actually understand the need for the text to say "target locked" but at this moment in time, I can't see an alternative meaning. Maybe FFG should slow down and keep to the quality product we are used to. I traded a few A-wings for TIE/FOs from the core box and found the paint job to be impressive... sitting along side my old Core TIE fighters, shows how far FFG has come in that Aspect. The problem with expansion based play, is that somehow you have to justify every expansion to yourself.... Would be nice if the price reflected the lower content value in this one.

Yeah that's true but it shouldn't have to be that way. Fantasy Flight seems to have learned a lesson here that trey are applying in Star Wars Legion - it's much easier, at least in wave 1, to get copies of upgrades you want without having to buy unwanted expansions for factions you don't play. It would be nice if they applied that to X-Wing in future releases as well.

I'm not sure what comment you're referring to specifically, but Youngster (and the rest of these TIE Fighter pilots) are part of the Imperial Assault Cruiser huge ship expansion. I'm guessing that's where the confusion comes from.
