In another universe, Schneider is a Stanley Cup and Vezina winner. He was basically one of the elite goalies in his prime, but just didn’t have the opportunity to lead a team, between competing with Lou in Vancouver and playing on a lot of poor Devils teams

@@klompsauce Same situation as Saros in Nashville, except Predators usually make playoffs; Devils didn't in Schneider's time. It was sadly brief and hidden in Shero's ineptitude to get him any goal support, but Schneider was absolutely elite.

@@closethockeyfan5284I wouldn’t say playing on the devils rode him into the ground , he just never got a good team . His age rode him into the ground , he had bad hips . If he was on a Stanley cup team his hips would have probably worn out quicker . But if he was on a Stanley cup team he would probably have a lot more accolades to hang up

The Devils team what we have now would be what Schneids deserved. And not the awful Teams that he has in front of him all these years. Class Guy, Top10 Goalie in his Prime, all the best Cory.

The Canucks losing both Schneider and Luongo in short order was one of those times in franchise history where you really wondered about the competence of management. I'm just glad that since that troubled time that the professional management of this team has turned things around and everything has proceeded smoothly...

As a NY/Bridgeport Islanders fan, I loved having Cory in the organization. His one game in NY was great. Being a season ticket holder for Bridgeport, he was amazing. Carried the B-Isles to their first second round appearance in over a decade. He’s just an amazing person and an amazing player for us.

Him and NJ were never on the same page. They wasted his best years not committing to a rebuild and once they did he lost his health and his game

'Goals for Cory' was the biggest rallying cry for Devils fans in the mid 2010s. Took the baton from Broudeur and took off running. A class act of a human too. Met him a couple of times and always went out of his way to talk/sign for fans. Rest easy big fella

I happen to own Cory's NHL debut Canucks jersey. His 1st game was on the road vs Calgary. On the same road trip, he wore the same jersey when he got his 1st ever NHL win vs Columbus. We got to become personal friends when he played in Winnipeg for the Manitoba Moose.

It feels a lot better to be a NJ fan theae days. Its practically a revitalized franchise, with a whole new team and attitude. Cory was here when we were a mess, I felt so bad for him because we all knew he was great, and he worked hard. Would have loved to have prime Cory now though behind a capable team.

Schneids had a weird career with the Devils. He was really good when the team around him sucked and really bad when the team had some potential. If not for Kinkaid in 2017 the Devils probably only break that playoff drought last season instead. He probably was never fully healthy in those later years though so cant blame him too much.

He was on pace to have the highest save % in NHL history before those injuries took place. Even with them, he finished his career with the 15th best save % in history! Had he been on better teams, perhaps he continues on that trajectory.

On the other side of that trade, THG, when Lou Lamoriello got the crowd on Gary Bettman's side at the 2013 draft by announcing that trade, the months after that moment led to the commentary that the Devils finally had their new Marty Brodeur. It was supposed to be a very easy transition and in that first year, the load was pretty evenly split. But Lou, despite this trade, began to take on aging free agents, Parise was gone, Kovalchuk was gone - and there was just no way Cory was going to thrive here. So as sad as it was for Canucks' fans to have lost him, the timing on the other end was epically and equally as bad. By the 2017-18 season, even though it was Taylor Hall's MVP season, the writing was on the wall. Lou was gone. And it just seemed cruel how it all came crumbling down for Cory. I never disliked him - but never warmed up to him. But Devils fans expected, but got nothing close to, Marty Brodeur in Cory. And that may have been the most unfair aspect to his coming here to New Jersey of them all.

Yeah Vancouver lost me as a fan for a few years there... I guess the whole chaos of the world took hold as well, but I probably went a season or two where I watched as many Oilers games as Canucks. If they beat us 10-0 tonight I might just do that.

That is my Time machine scenario, one of three places I would be willing to break the temporal prime directive. Tell someone "Ok Guys" Canucks lose here if they play Lou so I came back in time to ask you to try Schneider" The other Places usually involve the INES and doing things to stop Level 7 Events.

Starting Schneider in game 6 or 7 or whatever would NOT have made a difference in that final. A thin defence and a neutralized offence are what lost them the cup. Also, Luongo and Schneider both wouldve stayed longer or maybe even retired as Canucks if management hadn't screwed them up.

What surprised me about Schneider is I never thought he'd fall off the statistical cliff he did. I mean, he was properly "slow-cooked" in the minors, totally delivered when he arrived, but like Icarus his wings melted when he took a little heat I guess.
