Can you imagine what his record would have been if he had played for a DECENT team most of those years. I feel sorry for really good hockey players who are stuck with lousy teams year after year. However, most of those players bring it on themselves because they sign long term contracts for the $$$$$.

@@trvman1 Goaltending dont work like that, Rangers had pretty boring playing style what came to defense, letting shots from 'easy angles' and playing mid ice trap. Imo he is a goalie who needed action to thrive, the more shots the better he got.

So true. The team was awful in his early years and when they started making the playoffs and doing well, he was easily the primary reason why. The high quality scoring chances against him were far above league norms. No Cup? Hard to win one without multiple stars. Hank had a year with Jagr at the beginning and a year and a half at most with Panarin at the end. The guy should be a first ballot hall of famer.

If Hank were not so greedy, the Rangers could have had the extra cap space to give him the proper supporting cast, and possibly a Cup. There is no “I” in team.

@@seanbanayan8508 Yes, when you look back at that season, his signing was a killing blow for acquiring scoring depth they where desperately missing. The deal was almost 50% higher than second highest paid goalie in the league at thr time being Rask at 6million/ a year. Rask at the time was arguably the better goalie of the two.

I got a lot of great memories from the time back in Gothenburg and during Frolundas juniors program that makes him very special to me. He's the greatest player to ever wear the Frolunda Indians jersey and the greatest Swedish goalie of all-time. Him retiring is sort of the end of an era for me. He's an obvious HoFer, probably first ballet.
@skeppartorsk
@skeppartorsk 2 жыл бұрын
I never understood him going as late as he did in the draft based on how amazing his play was in Frölunda. The fact that New York only drafted him at all because they ran out of players on their draft list and one scout was like "What about this guy?". Makes it even more insane.

@swedreamhack5308
@swedreamhack5308 2 жыл бұрын
@@skeppartorsk I think a lot of it has to do with timing and exposure. It's very different to those who see the player every day, in practice etc compared to scouts who's seen a handful of games, listen to trainer's opinions while reading a stats sheet. Sweden went with Fransson and Asplund for the world juniors and that could play a part in it. He was Frolunda's 4th and 5th SHL option in 99/00 (not even a guaranteed backup if Jablonski or Brunetta would get injured at the same time), which I think made him appear very far down in the system. We also had several promising goaltenders that year, Liv, Tellquist, Ersberg to name a few that was arguably on the same level. So I guess for the people watching from a distance he could have looked like a reach when looking globally for a goalie. Imo, he wasn't playing his best hockey until late in 01/02 and that's 2 years past his draft year. NYR was very lucky.

Zero question HOF'er. Infinite class on and off the ice. Carried some middling Rangers teams through consistent deep playoff runs. The 2014 team deserved better in the SCF (particularly from an officiating standpoint), as did Lundqvist. The 2015 Rangers were a juggernaut that season, and that was his best shot...but they somehow came up short in game 7 ECF (I think his only game 7 loss) after destroying Tampa in game 6. Lifelong Rangers fan and this, although not surprising, hurts so much. Even if it wasn't with the Rangers I wish he could've kept playing and he definitely wanted to, but health always comes first. It's a shame this team could never finish the job. So close on several occasions but it just wasn't meant to be despite how much Hank carried a usually bad team. I'm guessing this is also how older fans felt watching Eddie hang them up. This team needs a change and fast. Rangers fans have watched multiple other dynasties rise and fall but the only times we were relevant were '94 and getting booted in quick stanley cup finals several other times in 5-6 games. I'm so sick of this shit, I wasn't even alive for '94 and now the best Rangers player in my lifetime has retired with only one win in the SCF to show for it. Godspeed King Henrik. That 2014 cup finals run was a special one for King Henrik! I was frustrated when my Pens blew a 3-1 lead to the Rangers. But I had respect for that team, especially with Henrik!

If not for the lockout reduced season, Hank would've had 12 back to back (to back to back to back.......) 30-win seasons to "start" his career. Model of top level consistency on some iffy teams.

I always remember King Henrick never getting great goal support from the Rangers. Not even good goal support. I think King Henrick played on a lot of mediocre Ranger teams over the years. I always wished he played on a better team. I pray that his health is good. A great goaltender, ambassador and of course very photogenic. Best suits in all of the NHL. Long live the KING!

As a rangers fan it always hurt watching the rangers put together teams that were never good enough except for in net. Our best 1st line center when we were contenders was Stepan or Brassard and that just wasn't good enough

Those guys would be fucking 3rd liners on other teams these ranger fans glorifying these teams like no they aren’t cup winning forwards. You trade away Marian gaborik the ONLY PLAYER TO EVER GET 70 POINTS FOR LUNDQVIST (other than jagr) he did that TWICE 40G/80P 40G/70P and then Rick Nash the ONLY OTHER GUY to crack 40 goals. McDonagh literally doing everything you don’t go after a superstar like kessel or oshie like the penguins and capitals, you don’t get a Norris candidate like Keith or Hedman, and that’s what you fucking get. A team that never had the offensive threat to win a cup with leading scorer zuccarello barely getting 60 points a year. SIXTY? CUP WINNING TEAMS HAVE MULTIPLE GUYS OVER 70. Fuck management. This is why Hank never got a cup. They didn’t make the mistake this time with sheterkin they went after panarin the best rangers forward since messier. But this guy had stepan brassard zuccarello in front of him guys who wouldn’t be on the top line of other teams. Sickening
