It's something to see the carpenters .. Karen was golden... Their arrangements were smooth...it just reminds me of a better america.. we changed so much.... Does seem like we evolved.. seems we just stuck in today.. then you knew where everyone was because of bicycles in the yard. Block parties.. the neighborhoods raised us. Today nobody really is that connected. .

@@marcyfan-tz4wj terribly terribly missed. They covered five Beatles songs (original and covers) I think unless I’m missing something. I love them all for their unique take on them. That John and Paul did too is heartwarming. ETA: I now believe it was 8 covers of original and covers of The Beatles. I didn’t recognize some of the more obscure songs but they are there. ETAA: And one of the 8 was Baby It’s You (The YOU set from 3 Carpenters videos) which was written by Burt Bacharach and 2 more who escape me it’s not in front of me. @@Better_Call_RaulPhil Collins?! A great drummer, but I’m not sure he was better. And vocally he can’t hold a candle to her. What a talent she was, and so sad that this part of her talent went totally wasted once her brother (it must’ve been him, because you can see how much she adores drumming) decided that they would hit the big time making vacuous, bland songs. Admittedly, they showcased her vocals, but what a missed opportunity not to utilise her incredible drumming talent too.

@@LeoDragon34 I know about Phil. And Don Henley and Levon Helm. There are many fine drummers who can sing. But I know of none that can do *both* at an *elite* level. She truly stands alone in that regard. I had absolutely no idea that she was highly regarded by Neal Peart and Buddy Rich. It blows my mind. And a female drummer. So unique... As to why the drumming was not showcased, the thinking must have been that when you have one of the greatest voices on the planet, just promote that. Can't really argue with their success. If what the video says is true, Carpenters were the #1 act of the decade. I knew they were huge but didn't know they were #1.

When I want to be inspired by how well one person can do two things at one time, I watch Karen Carpenter singing and drumming. I hadn't seen this one before, I think. In any case, thanks New Sun...if I understand you correctly. Anyway, this version really hits the mark for me. The perfect Carpenters song to me is "Dancing in the Streets." I really like their covers of Beatles songs, but they were all just a bit too OTT for me to love them. This one it seemed they toned down their tendency to jazzify a tad and it's just beautiful. I had my doubts about the falsetto chorus at first, but came around to realizing it makes Karen's contralto sound even richer. I was sad to hear it end.
