The Carpenters Solitaire Reaction
1. Karen Carpenter- Lower register sounds awesome. I really like how deep and smooth it is.
2. I like the kick into the chorus. I think it's sudden and it totally surprised me but it was great. The dynamic contrast was really big too and then it pulls back really low.
3. Is the word "enunciate"? I don't know but she really stresses the correct words in her lyrics it really works good.
4. Wait so....Richard Carpenter knows Dionne Warwick? I just did a video on that and that's why I'm asking.

how anyone with a soul and a heart can hear this song and that voice without bawling is beyond me!.... surely the most pure, richest, intimate, movingly warm beautiful voice of all time.. like velvet, like silk, like honey, like a warm hug, like the fantastic smell of intoxicating burning wood... karen carpenter had the greatest enunciation and diction of any singer, male or female that i have ever heard... she was the ULTIMATE singer who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU, and even her brother called her voice " PHONO-GENIC" in that she sounded like she was singing only to you and sitting in your lap!...

Her voice on this song blows me away every tiime. One of her best performances of the many songs Karen has recorded. @@w.williams4919 I've read and heard Richard and some of the others who worked with her in the studio say in interviews that she sang very close to the microphone, just an inch or two away at the most, and that she sang just above a whisper. Amazing, because with her mouth being that close to the microphone it picked up so much more. And it made it sound more intimate. She's amazing! There's never gonna be another Karen Carpenter. And wow, how I still miss her 37+ years later as of this writing.

Karen had been quoted regarding her lower register that " The money's in the basement". so her and Richard knew that her lower vocal range set her apart from other vocalists. Her enunciation was spot on always, this also set her apart. No autotune here, what you heard was what you got. No vocal pyrothechnics either, she did not need to shout, growl or wail to convey the emotions that she singing about. On a side note, to me it seemed that she saved her best vocals for their Christmas albums. Give them a listen you will see what I mean.

So, the Dionne Warwick history: Burt Bacharach and Hal David we're writing hit after hit in the early to mid 60's and Dionne Warwick was their voice of choice. They didn't have a contract promising her their next song but the collaboration just was happening naturally and I guess felt implied to Dionne. Suddenly Karen's voice appears on the music scene in 69 and Burt Bacharach is a big fan and offers her his next song. Dionne Warwick took it personally and it started a bit of a feud between Bacharach and Warwick and Dionne said a couple disrespecting things about Karen in the press. But Dionne had a change of heart after meeting The Carpenters and became a fan herself and a good friend. In Karen's last days Dionne had her over to her place for a visit and tried to talk sense into her about what she was doing with food. Dionne was a guest at Karen's wedding and she also attended Karen's funeral which is the clip you are seeing here in this video. Karen never initiated any rivalry with Dionne and except for those early snipes at Karen when her own feelings were raw, Dionne really didn't have anything against Karen and they were friends.

@twiddle66
@twiddle66 4 жыл бұрын
Jaybriel Akoi Well, he enjoyed the $ that the Carpenters made for A&M. They basically pulled the label out of a 2 year long hitless slump with Close to You. But Hal David was ready to cut the Carpenters after their first album failed to produce a #1 single. Herb Alpert went to bat to keep them. He told Hal David he really felt there was something there and to give them a bit more time. Hal David didn't seem to really get the Carpenters and he kind of let Herb Alpert handle them while he focused on some of the other acts that Carpenters singles were basically funding. The Carpenters were incredibly talented but didn't always get the respect they deserved from Hal David and I don't think he really realized what he had until Karen was gone.

Jaybriel Akoi Bacharach and David wrote songs together until 1973. Burt Bacharach was very vocal about his affection for Karen and the Carpenters. The got back together briefly to write some songs for Warwick in the 1990's.

Other songs worthy of your reaction from this album are "Where Do I Go From Here," "You're The One;" and "If I Had You." Lovelines seems the only album you haven't touched yet. There's some great stuff on there.

Keep requesting that he do You’re the One and Where Do I Go. I’ve been trying to get him to do those two for awhile. The other two are not as good, so don’t ask for those.

Dionne Warwick sang “Close to You” originally, Richard Carpenter rearranged it. Although I love Dionne Warwick, the Carpenters cover is much better (imo).

Suggest you react to the song "I Need to Be in Love" Carpenters. It was a HUGE hit in Japan and according to Richard, it was Karen's favorite song.
