Lyrics:
Who's gonna tell you when
It's too late?
Who's gonna tell you things
Aren't so great?
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong, oh no
Who's gonna drive you home
Tonight?
Who's gonna pick you up
When you fall?
Who's gonna hang it up
When you call?
Who's gonna pay attention
To your dreams?
Who's gonna plug their ears
When you scream?
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong, oh no
Who's gonna drive you home
Tonight?
Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake?
Who's gonna come around
When you break?
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong, oh no
Who's gonna drive you home
Tonight?
You know you can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong, oh no
Who's gonna drive you home
Tonight?

You know I've probably heard this song a thousand times if I've heard it once, but on the day you posted this comment I heard it on the radio, I turned up the volume a little bit, and I'm not sure what it was, but it was like I was hearing it for the first time, and now I can't get it, or that feeling you posted about, out of my head. Perhaps something was making connections that day ??

This is one of those songs that defines a time in my life. I was 21, pregnant and working at the Pizza Hut at night and attending college in the day. After we shut down at night I would play this song on the jukebox while cleaning. I remember the feeling of not knowing what my life was going to be like after the birth of my child. So many unknowns for the future. 33 years later my daughter was pregnant with her second child and suffered an AVM rupture in her brain. She coded 5 times. Was in the hospital 2 months and we expected her at first to not survive the night then, as she pulled through we expected severe brain damage. I heard this song again while driving to and from the hospital. Again so many unknowns for the future. 3 years later her mind is sound as ever but she has visual and balance problems. He baby is perfect. Music has the special ability to connect us instantly with a time, place and emotion. I have more than one song that represents something but this one, this one carries a special feeling of "waiting for the unknown. "

@@nellythedragon1447 to expound on that more there was this particularly brief period in the 90's where everything was in the same space: culture (musical Renaissance), technology (Al Gore's invention), economy (Clinton years), and no wars of oppression (shield&storm were to protect Kuwait and we was seen as liberators again, briefly). She is engaged and had her last baby who doesn't know what it is to be away from mom. The four and two and a half year old are real close to us like our own kids. I was a lifeguard at a swim club when this song came out and for some reason this song is locked in my brain at a moment as a high school teenager. It was early in the morning before the club opened, and I was vacuuming the pool. The sun had just come up and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It was going to be a perfect summer day at the best job a teenager could have in the summer time. I had the music on over the pool speakers and this song came on and I remember having this peaceful feeling as I stood there quietly enjoying the early morning silence with this song as the backdrop before the day got busy. I won’t ever forget that moment and I think of it every time I hear this song. RIP Ric and Benjamin. Your music lives on in memories like these. And, I too had a Walkman……

Drive was one of the greatest songs of the 80s. I didn’t know it at the time, but it’s about his girlfriend who’s a drug addict and he’s asking her all those questions, finally realizing there’s no hope for her or their relationship. I think this song touches everyone in some way. There’s nothing made today that comes close to the music of the 70s and 80s.

My dad used to love this song, he had it on cassette he'd play in his car really often. I've had this on Spotify since I got the app.. my dad passed away in July 2021.. he was diagnosed with cancer on the very last stage and the doctors couldn't do anything cause it had spread to his lungs, kidneys, liver, bladder and arteries.. This always reminds me of him now.. brings tears to my eyes cause how much he cared.. He'd always picked me from work, dropped me off and we'd talk about everything and anything. He'd stay up late waiting for me when I was out for dinner "who's gonna tell you, it's too late" He would talk to me about the issues we faced financially "who's gonna tell you things, aren't so great" And now that he's gone I can't "go on thinking nothing's wrong" He was always there when I was broken "who's gonna pick you up when you fall" "Who's gonna pay attention to your dreams?" He never had me spend anything for anything other than the things that I needed and wanted I had everything I wanted cause he was there for me. For us. 😭 He paid for my education all the way through to the end. And I feel like I wasn't even able to make up for it. I'm happy I got to spend his last days right by his side. He held my hand so tight every time in the last few days, he was unable to speak but I always felt like he wanted to say something to me.. May his soul rest in peace. ❤️😭 This song shall forever remind me of him. Even though I know that's not the intended meaning behind the video or the song but that's the beauty of the song, it could translate to a specific thing for the different audience.

I’m 21 years old and I love 80s music so much, and whenever I read the comments on these music videos it makes me so happy but it also makes me cry reading some of the stories of people who have connections to the songs. I wish I could’ve been there, in that amazing era. I’m grateful to have all the wonderful music at my fingertips today.

Did your parents listen to 80’s music when you were younger or you are the only one that likes it out of you, your dad, your mom? Do you have a specifix genre in the 80’s you like the best? Personally, i like more rock/pop songs from the 80’s like The Outfield, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, OMD, Cars, etc.

@@MrSpooner1985 My mom loves 80s music since that was "her time" as she always tells me haha. My dad likes a lot of songs too, but he mostly loves music from the 60s and 70s since that was his time. That definitely rubbed off on me too. And as for favorite genre I feel the same, I mostly like rock/pop but also a lot of new wave stuff like Talking Heads! Definitely one of my all time favorites, and obviously The Cars as well. Scorpions, DEVO, Madonna, Billy Idol, Erasure, The Clash, Hall & Oates, The Outfield, Van Halen, REO Speedwagon, etc etc... all ones I love!

For me the 80s was my mom chain smoking cigarettes in the car with her window cracked, getting McDonald’s almost every day when my dad was deployed, cartoons, playing outside til the street lights came on. I used to try singing like MaDonna! I was just a little kid then. Hair was big! Everyone looks back nostalgically at different decades. I honestly am glad I grew up before social media, etc... There was dial-up by the time I was in 4th grade, but it wasn’t common to have. There were “car phones,” but I never saw them. And the giant 80’s mobile phone looked like a giant walk-in-talkie. 😂 It wasn’t that great honestly. But it’s better than what my kids are growing up with today. P.S. Not everyone had cable, but if a kid on your block did, you’d be posted watching MTV music videos or you’d make mixed tapes off of the radio.

I agree. I was 15/16 in 1981 so I got to experience all that great music as new & count myself lucky to have seen many of the great bands in concert back then & at the time it's just what was out there. The reality of how great & diverse the current music of the 80's was may have been a little lost on us at the time. All we knew was we just loved it but looking back It's sweeter now because of the memories. Every band had a distinct sound & their own identity.

I just turned 73-years-old, and very much appreciate the music from the late 1950s through the 1970s but there's just something about the 1980s music that can bring about such great memories of that period. It goes beyond nostalgia and wistful sentimental...very difficult to put into words, and Eddie Money, The Cars, and all of the great musicians/bands of the '80s made it such a great era.

I used to dance to this song in my bedroom at night, alone, or so I thought....little did I know I was actually watching myself from my backyard through a pair of vintage, bronze coated binoculars....I eventually got a restraining order - but that only worked for a short time....soon after I'd be shaving and then out of nowhere - I'd be staring back at me in the mirror...I can't say much more because I'm probably reading this over my own shoulder...but, even the other day I was walking home late at night through a dark alleyway and I could hear footsteps...getting closer and closer....but every time I stopped the footsteps also stopped....then when I started walking again...I could hear them...clip...clop....clip...clop....it was then I realized I was banging two coconut shells together
