Liz Fraser sadly no longer with us, passed away in 2018 aged 88. That's interesting to me that they stopped filming in October 1971 as that is when I was born, so I suppose I should watch this series. Another varied and interesting collection of cars, the Capri being of particular interest to me ( No surprise there then ) That Bentley though what a lovely car. Good work again Joseph. Thanks.

No problem at all, Andy! I couldn't remember if Liz Fraser was still with us or not... Yes, it generally took about a year to make 26 episodes, so they would have finished filming in October 1971. If you don't like Peter Wyngarde, you won't particularly like the series, but it is worth a look if you like some of the cars and actors in it. That MkI Capri with the fake Greek plates on it is quite nice...

Maserati Ghibli and Bentley S2 HT Mulliner. Have to watch Department S before this though. Fantastic thank you Sir.

No problem at all, sir! Yes, Department S would be a bit of of must before watching Jason King really. They certainly liked a few luxury cars when filming the series, didn't they?

I’m not too sure how true this is, but I understand that when Tony Curtis was filming The Persuaders, he was given a home in Mayfair and the red Ferrari, by Sir Lew Grade, as part of his package and a means of retaining his services, when he wished to leave and return to the USA.

That's very interesting... I don't think I have heard that story before. The Dino was supplied by Ferrari themselves and was driven back from Modena by Johnny Goodman, who I believe was the production manager.

Before my time but seen them recently, excellent, didn't realise how good they were and the clothes worn by Wyngarde were awesome.

My wife loves watching Peter Wyngarde. He was extremely popular with audiences at the time, and even 50 years later, he comes across very well. Thanks ever so much indeed for watching, got about 50 episodes of this series on the playlist if you like this sort of thing.

I used to like Jason King as a kid. So early 70s. I sadly missed the auction in Bristol last month of Peter Wyngardes estate. Had quite a few of the original JK series props. I'd have had a punt at some if I knew.

Thanks Richard! Yes, he was invited to an ITC fan event at Elstree Studios which I attended a couple of years ago, but could not attend due to ill health. The next event was the sad announcement of his death. Reading up on his biography is fascinating, nobody seemed to know exactly how old he was or where he was born!

What about doing the Baron, his Jenson CV8, was a fantastic car, I understand it was a 6. 8 litre monster, and the burble of the exhaust is a similar one to my own BMW X6M, which has the4.4 litre V8. The most notable thing about the Jenson though,is the sheer size of the steering wheel, no doubt because there was no power steering.

100% my era, I remember this series, also Dangerman…The Power game….The Pursuaders…..The Avengers. By today’s standards, the plots are weak, but this is part of the game, a trip back to what one was doing at the time…… don’t take it all too seriously and one will enjoy languishing in an era long gone and sadly missed.

Yes, I have covered The Avengers and The Persuaders as well on the Cars on Television playlist. The Avengers I actually covered in two very long podcasts.... Jason King is actually better than it would seem on paper, although it definitely cannot be taken too seriously, as it does not stand up to much detailed criticism. It is an awful lot of escapist fun, though!

are you going to do any more cars on film and tv during the lockdown
@lloydvehicleconsulting

I may do, however, they do tend to get quite low viewing figures, and I don't have too many more series to cover now, but I could have a go. Are there are any in particular that you would like to see? I don't tend to do series I have not extensively watched before.

Hi Joseph I have the Jason king box set the episode with the vauxhall vx490 also has the actor from Randall and hopkirk as the driver he must have liked those Vauxhall’s
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, "A Red, Red Rose Forever" guest stars Mike Pratt. It really shows his acting range as he actually mainly played villains before Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). He is definitely one of my favourite actors of the period. Vauxhall actually supplied two press cars for the episode (the Viva I mentioned turns up in at least ten episodes), and the VX4/90 in question is similar to the Victor he drove in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). It's more to do with the Vauxhall press department being willing to work with Monty Berman and ITC than Mike Pratt's preferences, but it is interesting nevertheless, isn't it?

Nobody does smarmy sleaze (or is it sleazy smarm?) like Ronald Lacey. Snivelling cowardice also a speciality, And Dennis Price is of course supreme for arrogant superciliousness. Great actors both. Beautiful Bentley with coachwork by Mulliner which incredibly can trace its origins back to the 16th century as saddle makers.

Oh indeed, sir, Ronald Lacey can be very, very smarmy when he needs to be. Dennis Price was one of the best things about The Adventurer too, actually!

He sort of looks like my father used to as well, although he had curly hair and glasses. Same colour hair, though, and same utterly ridiculous moustache. Some of my father's 1970s clothes were like that too. He was apparently devastatingly attractive to women...
