Now I'm not sure if I would actually wear one on a daily basis, but from aesthetics point of view - at least for my taste - this watch is such a devastatingly, gorgeous mix of weirdness, class and elegance. It's just so seriously playful, or playfully serious. It's the stuff of legends.

There is actually one watch you could compare the crash to, which is the "Softwatch Exaequo Salvador Dali".

@@ensampojken I don't think this is an ad. At least it's not labelled as one.

"Recently, the book The Cartiers by Francesca Cartier Brickell dispelled the common origin story of the Cartier Crash: it was never the result of a car crash melting a Cartier Baignoire Allongée, but instead the product of a collaboration between Jean-Jacques Cartier (who ran the Cartier London branch from the 1940s through the 1970s) and designer Rupert Emmerson. Sometimes, a great design is a great design - it doesn’t need some apocryphal story to raise its stature. Such is the case with the Cartier Crash. First introduced by Cartier London in 1967, the Crash has been produced in fits and starts on an extremely limited basis ever since."

The ambition with this watch was and is somewhat crazy - to make it actually happen is otherworldly - hands down a stunner and imo clearly deserves its fame and glory! Notorious!

Hamilton launched a long series of dramatic asymmetric watches 10 years before the Cartier Crash. Look at the Altair if you want to see avant garde styling pre-dating the Crash.

Watching hodinkee do art brut of a cartier watch is so hilariously low brow with such an expensive piece.

Any particular reason why they don't use the watchmaker's roman numeral 4 on the dial?

This watch is not for me personally. But like other watch models I am glad it was made. It definitely interesting to look at and I would really enjoy the chance to see one in person one day.

Mah better to ditch the super gimmicks of painting and it should have more shots of the crash in the wild with different outfits outside and also a bit on the movement…not a nice video and for me not what week on a wrist should be about imo

Hideous. Absolutely hideous. Cartier has proven once again that people will be fooled into thinking something is beautiful just because it comes from a particular brand. If Fossil or Invicta had come out with this first, the jokes would be coming in HARD.
